Does minoxidil lose affect after 2 years?

With me it lost its effect after 6 months!
After 3 months my hair was much thicker and the treatment was a God Send.
By about 6 months it was beginning to seem thinner and by 9 months most of it has fallen out!
About to add propecia to the regimen which should hopefully get things back on track...

I saw Dr. Proctor and a few others post about minoxidil tolerance and "dependency" a few times on alt.baldspot...
I will do some googling tomorrow and try to find the relevant posts... if you can wait that long

Minoxidil does not stop working after 2 years from what i know, but you are not expected to see anymore regrowth after 2 years... That's what i think anyway as i have come across plenty of people using rogaine for many years and if it 'just stopped workin' then i doubt they would bother continuing years after.

Minoxidil does not stop working after two years, after around two years minoxidils effects may peak.

As I've been saying for years, I don't know of any real evidence that topical minoxidil "stops working" after a period of time. What people need to understand is that a decline in the condition of your hair over the years (and it almost always declines, if you use nothing EXCEPT minoxidil) is a sign that male pattern baldness is "catching up" with the minoxidil, not that the minoxidil is failing per se.

its simple how i see it....
minoxidil is a growth stimulant. it stimulates an offset of growth, separate from your "normal" hair - separate from your normal balding pattern.
say you get on minoxidil...you will be growing this new hair, but at the same time, losing some hair due to the effects of dht. if your newly grown hair grows quicker than the rate you are losing at, the overall aesthetic effect is that you have more hair.
after anything around 2 years (maybe less maybe more, depending on your balding rate and response to minoxidil), when the minoxidil effectiveness in terms of regrowth has peaked, your balding may appear to speed up (only relative to your regrowth from minoxidil!).
the best thing you can do is to be on a dht inhibitor (e.g. finasteride). if youre on minoxidil, be on finasteride as well. if youre just on finasteride and are happy, so be it.
also, remember that even after your minoxidil regrowth has peaked, you still need to stay on minoxidil to maintain those hairs grown from minoxidil.
these are the facts as far as i know, and from everything ive read.

Everything about hair have a top in 1,5 or 2 year and after work less. This is because the body adabt to a regim.
In sport is the same. You have to change your work if you want to be always better.
I think that in a regim, you have always the possibility to change samething.
I use 1 ml finasteride and kirchland 5% minoxidil.
I have 5% minoxidil with retinol.... but I dont use it now. Now my hear work good. In same mount I'll use the 5% with retinol.
You have to find what is for you good. ANd you have too undestand when you have to change samething.
This is what I think.

I just bought 5% minoxidil Walgreen's brand and I would like to quote from the product insert.
"hair regrowth has not been shown to last longer than 48 WEEKS of continuous treatment in large clinical trials."
What the hell does that mean? Any comments?
