Does minoxidil actually work for crown thinning?

I’m 26 years old. Over the last few months, I’ve noticed that the crown area of my scalp has become noticeably thinner. My hairline hasn’t changed much, but when looking at my hair from above, more of my scalp is visible.

Could this be the beginning of male pattern baldness (male pattern baldness)? Or are there other causes I should look into?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who experienced something similar and eventually got a diagnosis.

Minoxidil can help some people with crown thinning, but the first step is understanding what is actually causing the change. The crown can sometimes look much thinner because of lighting, hair direction or the natural whorl, so try taking photos with dry hair under the same lighting and angle. A dermatologist can also check whether there is real miniaturization. If it is early male pattern hair loss, topical minoxidil is one of the more established options for the crown, but it does not work equally for everyone and it usually needs consistent use for several months before you can judge the response. It is also not a permanent one-time fix, as any benefit generally needs to be maintained with continued use. Since you noticed the change early, there is no reason to panic. Get a proper assessment, create a clear baseline and then decide on treatment with a doctor. Just to be transparent, we are replying from a clinic account, but this is general guidance rather than a diagnosis.
