Does male pattern baldness Cause Growth Cycles To Shorten ?

I am thinning on the top front part of my head started at 16 am now 19, What i want to know is weather it is normal for the affected area to grow slower than then the Non affected area's. I shaved my head no. 2 on Dec 31st 2014 so its almost been six months and the back is growing just as it always has but the less dense top is not at this stage the top front should be nearing my eyebrows but it's only to the middle of forehead. I also have an even slower growing bit of hair on the right side of my hairline that doesn't seem to gain any length dunno weather it is because i keep touching it out of habit or its because of male pattern baldness but it's strange that the bit of hair that I keep touching and twiddling isn't gaining length

Yes, male pattern baldness does effects the growth cycles of hair, including shortening them.

Dihydrotestosterone as you're probably familiar with miniaturizes the hair follicles that are genetically predisposed to being sensitive to the hormone, and then the strands fall out. Then hair starts coming in finer, shorter, weaker, and eventually if left untreated, hair will completely cease growing in the areas affected by Androgenetic Alopecia.
The levels of DHT in both bald/balding and non-balding men are relatively similar. However, in a balding scalp, their are higher levels of Prostaglandin D2 than a non-balding scalp, and that the lipid compound which has hormone-like effects has been shown to shorten growth cycles and even suppress hair growth when PGD2 is elevated.

It's common for areas effects by male pattern baldness to grow slower than non-affected areas, I am dealing with that issue myself. Even having hair grow slower in areas that have been effected than other areas that have also been effected is also part of the problem, in your case, the right side of your hairline. I'm also dealing hair loss on both sides of my hairline with my left side being a little worse. Remember that male pattern baldness doesn't follow any rules.

Wait really? Do you have any sources for that? I believe it (I speculated the same thing because the new hair on my hairline is taking FOREVER to grow) but I wanna look into it and possible ways to fix that problem

Sources? Having male pattern baldness. :p

I'm sure other men on this forum with aggressive male pattern baldness will know what I'm talking about and what I mean, like yourself for example. As I've experienced myself, getting good regrowth on the hairline isn't easy.

By the way recedingyt, how has your hair been doing overall? Are you still taking Estradiol Valerate and Spironolactone for HRT? How much do you think those two helped treat your male pattern baldness than using the standard Finasteride and Minoxidil? You went from like an advanced Norwood 4 to practically having a full head of hair again.

Yep, still doing HRT and will be probably for life (I can maybe cut spironolactone out if I decide to get an orchiectomy in the future). I think they have been instrumental in my success. I think T is very underestimated in how much of a role it plays in male pattern baldness, and estrogen is supposedly good for your hair as well. I very much doubt I'd have gotten the same results from minoxidil/finasteride alone.

That being said, I'm in a really bad shed at the moment because of a couple of reasons

1) ran out of estradiol
2) got lazy and missed some spironolactone/finasteride doses
3) I think I quit minoxidil preemptively

I think I will recover what I'm losing in this shed, hopefully they'll even be thicker hairs (the main issue I'm having is not that I don't have enough hairs, but the hairs I do have are very thin/weak). Just got more estradiol today, I've tightened my regimen so I'm not missing doses, and I've been using minoxidil again for about a week now. Nothing really to show for it yet, but I'm hoping I can do another big update in about 2-4 months when the hairs have (hopefully) thickened up.

Praying for the hairs on my hairline to thicken up greatly which would put me at like NW1.5 lol but we'll see in a year or so
