Does low T cause hairloss?

My hair has been thinning (top and sides and a little in back) despite hairline not moving in 5 years (Receded a little in 2008 (when I was 18), but hasn't moved at all since, maybe a very small bit thinner on one side).

Well I noticed I lost about 50% of my pubic hair as well over the years. Doctor suggest I get my T levels tested and well...

Total Test: 264
Range: [300-1000]

For 23 that seems real low. I'm unsure if this can be causing hairloss or not. Not to mention wouldn't getting back in the normal range cause my hairloss to speed up if it was male pattern baldness?

I think there are a few different kinds like free testosterone verses total testosterone not sure the difference exactly. Since DHT causes male pattern baldness and T is a weaker androgen I would assume both T and DHT directly cause hair loss. Contrary to commercials telling you to take T treatments I would bet your going bald faster with higher T but it all depends on sensitivity to androgens, DHT levels, and things like that maybe even estrogen levels.

So what do I do?

What were your DHT levels?

Get on a DHT inhibitor like finasteride or get DHT inhibiting topicals with minoxidil like lipogaine to vasodilate the blood cells in scalp as well as treat the core issue in the follicle.

To raise your testosterone, limit your masturbating and start exercising and began a "strict" diet,
basically meaning understand exactly what you're putting in your body.

See a doctor (cheaper) or derm that knows something about hair loss and ask them if propecia is something you should try. You can only do what anyone else can do and that is just propecia, rogain, or live with it. Your choice.
