Does laying off Nizoral help reduce irritation sometimes?

Hi,

I'm going through an issue with the thinning areas (my crown).. it's a tingly/itchy irritation randomly throughout the day. :freaked2:

I'm in the earlier stages of thinning, but it's a noticable area towards the vertex/crown especially on the left side... sorta line-like and not swirled as the 'typical' male pattern baldness crown thinning occurs.

I need to beat this situation, I don't itch, but I have been rubbing. So I've not touched Nizoral in a few days.. I'm just using T/Gel 'Stubborn Itch Formula' for now, every other day or so.. until this tingling feeling on my crown is under control.

It's anoying because I want my thinning to be controlled and the irritation is making things worse.. .. the hairline is fine.

When I go back to Nizoral again, I may go the 2% route. Any comments on this? Overkill?

What a pain in the ***.

Please help. I'm thinking of adding InFlamil soon also.

I use Tricomin right now though... no minoxidil yet.

You could try using a conditoner after you wash your hairr with Nizoral, maybe containing something like Aloe Vera. Would be cheap enough just to give it a try.

I use conditioner all the time.. after every shampoo.

It's not helping.

Will laying off the Nizoral for awhile be a good idea?

It doesnt seem you use Nizoral enough for it to be causing you problems, and the strength you use (1%) is less than most people (including me) use. On the days your not using Nizoral try using another shampoo such as T-Gel. Keep experimenting with different shampoos and conditioners in different rotation. I wouldnt suggest stopping the Nizoral though, its really helped me.

Try waterinsing now and then for a couple of days. Sometimes your scalp just needs a break.

nizoral causes more problems than solves for me so I don't even use it. So it is possible that your skin is having a reaction to the ingredients.

Damn, this is a pain in the *** trying to isolate the problem and correct it.

It's kinda pointless to even ask for advice here I suppose, it seems to be a matter of trial and error.

Why is it pointless to ask advice? Most of us use Nizoral (I do).

I mean that it seems pointless to ask for advice in regards to stopping (for awhile) or continuing with Nizoral.

Because nobody really knows our own scalps as much as we do, and in that regard it seems to be more trial and error than "Step 1: Do this.".

For an itchy 'Propecia' scalp you might want to try any or all of the following.

T/Sal with salicylic acid (I see you are already using T/Gel but T/Sal works differently)

Take a week off shampooing and use a good quality moisturiser on your scalp (Nutrogena Visibly Young worked for me) a few times a week.

Rinse your scalp with very cold water for a couple of minutes after you get out of the bath/shower.

Emu Oil.

Folligen.

That's the best advice in the thread. Right on.

heheh :)

Hi Gardener and Radio,

Thanks for the tips radio.. i'm a Tricomin man myself, as the Folligen is just toooo strong for me and I don't like to dillute it because then I don't really know how much I'm getting in general, where as Tricomin is mixed already for me and at a quality ratio of potency to comfort.

T/Sal I do have, and use occassionaly, though it's not currently an active member of my regimen as I'm sticking with T/Gel only for now (along with a gentle shampoo).. I condition after every shampooing.

I shall try the few minutes cold water rinse.

Don't shampoo for a week? That may be difficult for me due to my hair gel use but I might be able to handle warm water rinses.

The 'Propecia' itch is a bastard.. and only on my crown/vertex thinning areas too, which is wild.. everywhere else on my scalp is nice and healthy.

Emu oil I should invest in some again.. not sure yet.

I think InFlamil is a possible purchase soon for me...

Thanks

What kind of term is this? It's like propecia causes the itch. I bet it's just the damage being/having been done to the thinning areas and the inflammation that goes along.

The term is more for easy reference .. but you're right.

However, I only started getting this itch soon after I took Propecia, and I was thinning for months beforehand.
