Does finasteride work on a receding hairline?

Hi everyone, I have a receding hairline and that's about it. You can see my thread with pics here. I have an appt. set up with a dermatologist in January

and I'm hoping to get prescribed finasteride. I've already started using 1% nizoral shampoo twice a week as recommended by people here.

I just got really worried, however, because I've read that finasteride doesn't work on receding hairlines.. In fact, the website for Propecia even states, "Propecia® is the first and only FDA-approved pill used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head). There is not sufficient evidence that Propecia® works for receding hairlines at the temples."

So basically I'm asking for your guys' input on the matter, as I don't want to start finasteride if it won't help.

Thanks

Im in the same boat as you. I noticed my receding hairline about 2 weeks ago and got onto propecia as soon as I could. Although my hairline looks a lot worse than yours.
Im only using propecia at the moment. I want to ask for some advice on that (Hoping the mods will reply to me about now being about to start a new thread!)(HINT*)

Anyway, about propecia. It was only officially tested on the back of the head. That doesn't mean it doesn't work for the hairline. As far as I know...

It definetly does work on a receding hairline.
Just not as effective.

But it's perfect for maintaining your hairline.

sweet thanks, i hope to start it asap. what else is effective against a hairline receding?
Anything that works in the back will work in the front just not as well. A ketoconazole shampoo 2-3x a week is a good easy option. Nizoral and Sebizole are the two name brand options of 2% keto shampoos. Leave them in your hair 3-5 minutes when you shower

Worked well for me. My hairline is better now at 40 than it was at 27. Just dont expect the same kind of level of success as at the crown. Also, its a long-game, so be patient. Just take Propecia, maybe Nizoral, and then forget about it. Two weeks of side effects then it should level out. Good luck!
