IMO the better alternative is to let your hair take its natural course. Don't do anything to try and prevent it from falling out and accept your fate like a man.

yeah that's an option, but I want to keep my hair for the remainder of my youth. I might accept going bald when I older but I can't accept it now.

Is it the best treatment for temples or is minoxidil a better treatment for temples and hairline.

I would say finasteride is the better of the two treatments. With that being said there have been a few lucky ones that have regrown a lot of hair with minoxidil alone. Many say minoxidil is more of a short term treatment if not combined with some kind of AA.
