Does Diffuse Thinning Ever Stabilize Without Drugs?

With receding hairline often times I notice that it just suddenly stops and then stays the same way for many years even without drugs. This is actually very common in a lot of people I know in real life and from what I see on these forums.

Does this ever happen with diffuse thinners? Like you just lose a lot of hair quickly and then it stays like that for many years? I have never seen this happen so far. It seems like with diffuse thinning, it is a guarantee that you will go bald while with regular balding it can stop at any time.

Pretty positive you are right.
However some diffuse thinners take quite long from buzzcut to cueball stage.

I've had the same thought. Diffuse thinning means the whole area is affected, while "standard" male pattern baldness follows a pattern. Just like our body hair, we have follicles all over the body and I believe all of them are exposed to androgens. Yet not everyone has back hair for example and body hair seems to follow a pattern as well. One might develop back hair but it might happen very late in life. The equivalent of diffuse thinning for body hair would be growing hair on all places at once.

Depends really, young guys usually have aggressive thinning and rarely stabilize without drugs, however in older guys, it can stabilize on its own. A lot of old people stay in the same stage for years.

Fingers crossed we get atleast 10 years out of propecia and then 10 years out of avodart and don’t go bald until atleast an acceptable age.

Being bald when you’re older with a family and children doesn’t seem too bad

I already have major sides from finasteride so idek if I can go that long.

I'm starting to thin in my 50s. Always had good thick hair and figured that I would always have it.
No such luck. Majority of my friends are worse than me. They don't seem to give a sh*t anymore, maybe because they went through it decades ago.
Getting hit with the balding gene late in life is no condolence

Yeah I mean I would prefer that over being hit with it at 20.

I got hit with it just now at 38. However, I'm hopeful I can stop if even though it's the dreaded "diffuse thinning." I will see how well it goes. I can't see how one type of thinning would be better or worse than another though.

I was always told diffuse thinners respond to meds better. To me, that would make sense as well. I think it’s easier to see a visible effect regrowing strands of hair in between other strands of hair than to regrow hair on a receded bald patch where all the hairs have to be recovered med wise.

I know this is a bit off topic but any diffuse thinners respond negatively to anti acid pills or proton pump inhibitors for acid reflux? Im supposed to be on meds cause I have the reflux really bad but everytime I take it, that night I wake up with really itchy crawling scalp and tons of hair in drain next day. It seriously wakes me up in the middle of the night even if I take the pill in the morning. I take protonix. Anyone???
