finasteride/dutasteride inhibits 5AR to convert T to DHT, but all I hear about saw palmetto is it lowers your overall DHT level. Is it even proven to lower your overall DHT level?

Saw Palmetto does not inhibit 5AR, does not inhibit androgen receptor, so how does it lower your DHT level?

I'm already taking 5mg finasteride every day, I'm looking to do a little more; I have tried dutasteride before with too much shedding, so I'm not going to take it again or switch.

I can get Proscar cheaper than Propecia, but I don't want to cut the pill, so I take to whole pill. Besides, all tests are based on 5mg as reference.

It doesn't.

So basically Saw Palmetto is just a scam and snake oil? That's what I thought.

But else I can do besides taking finasteride every day, and keto twice every week?

Saw palmetto will not help hair loss.

finasteride/minoxidil and dutasteride is all there is. I dont see too many ppl on here taking more than 1mg daily- maybe consider cutting the pill or taking the whole thing weekly, i dont think 5mg a day can be good for you.

The evidence that saw palmetto works is very thin. Nevertheless it is an ingredient of many supplements against hair growth... I believe there must be something about it because even some larger pharmaceutical companies use these in their treatments.

I was using it 2x daily for the past 8 months, then I stopped 2 months ago. So being on it for 6 months and stopping, nothing happened that I could specifically pinpoint. Didn't even shed. It might be cheap, but it's still an extra $10 per month you can invest in a more effective proven, or even experimental cutting edge product.

After being the guinea pig I can safely say: It doesn't do jacksh^it

Nope. Take a look at this chart, all it does is inhibit 0.5% more DHT than a 1 mg dose. Not 'bad for you' at all, simply just not worth it cost-benefit wise.

Literally the only difference is a greater decrease in prostate DHT levels and increase in hair counts over the 1 mg dose.

Not to mention saw palmetto has no long term safety trials backing it, making it not only ineffective but also possibly unsafe.

If you're looking to do more outside of taking finasteride and shampooing with ketoconazole, you have a few options:

-Switch to dutasteride 0.5 mg/day (your regimen says you're already on it though, if you actually are, ignore this then)
-Add 5% minoxidil 2x/day
-Look at SwissTemples' blog for some experimental stuff to try. Castor oil is of note as it activates EP3 and EP4 prostanoid receptors to increase endogenous PGE2 production (thought to be beneficial for hair regrowth)
