Does a high sebum production in the scalp increase male pattern baldness?

It probably contributes to hair loss. It can clog up follicles and what not. I had some sebum problems that cleared up nicely with T/Sal and nizoral...

I heard sebum is a massive DHT conductor.

Personnaly I feel my hair much more threatened when my hair is greasy, just before I wash my hair.

before i started finasteride, 5 or so years ago, my hairs that fell out would have hardened sebum stuck on the roots [BARF]. i noticed that stopped several moths into treatment. nice clean bulbs since then.

I had exactly the same problem. Funny thing is I went to a dermatoligist about this and he was no help at all. I am also on finasteride so that probably helped my sebum problem too?? Hard to say. I do know that nizoral has been shown to decrease the size of sebum glands in the scalp so that is why I thought it was helping the most...

Ive read that sufferers of male pattern baldness have much higher scalp sebum but this does not prove that the sebum causes male pattern baldness since the anti-sebum shampoos do not seem to regrow much hair. They leave my scalp in much better shape so I use them, and this in turn I think makes the hair I have left healthier.

Does anyone know if Nioxin is an effective remedy for the sebum problem?

What ingredient makes you think it might be effective for this??

Dunno, other than the fact that it's perhaps the most expensive shampoo i've used for my hair. it's got to accomplish something at $30 per bottle. :hairy:

It produces a nice cosmetic effect. As far as I can tell, that is all.
