I have commented on this in a few threads I have posted in but would like to hear everyone's opinions. Do you guys think a person's personality controls a lot of hairloss? Like others have posted there are so many factors in hairloss that it seems everything in our environment can cause it. I do believe it is mostly androgens but I think our mindset controls a large part too. I myself am very conservative and was raised in a conservative family. Much of my family is bald, (Dad full bald from mid 20's, grandpa on both sides although mothers side wasn't til later, uncle on dads side very thin but still decent, and uncle on moms side full bald from 30) and I thought it was something that was just going to happen. I started on my dads track, receding since 17 and got on minoxidil at 19 and am now on finasteride as it didn't help too much. Now 22 and probably an NW2.5 with very thin hair that Im hoping finasteride will help out with.
I attend college in a very liberal town and frankly I really don't like it that much. Thought to transfer but just stuck with it and am now in my 4th year. Hairloss did effect me pretty negatively but I am over it now and feel a lot better since I am treating the fundamental cause of hairloss and have no side effects on the drug. But as I said how I don't like the town and people here very much, all I see is super left wing liberals with dreadlocks and long hair everywhere. Now I know not everyone should be as bald as I am in my early 20's but dammit everyone here has hair!! Like I said it was tough for me to fit in this town and literally everyone's views are 110% different than mine. They laugh at parts in movies I don't find funny, their ideas of fun are completely different than mine, their sex lives are weird, and political views are definitely way different.
I saw an article about how the Norwegian mass murderer killed people that looked like they had different political beliefs than him and they had a representative picture of a liberal looking guy and a conservative guy. The conservative dressed in blue jeans had some receding and thinner hair and the liberal dressed like a hipster and had a hair cut that looked like he could be the lead singer of any new indie band. Long hair is the style right now and thats all I see here. Believe me I would like to do it, but I can't and I feel it does play a part in me not fitting well here. Not only do I have way different views than everyone, but I don't look like them! All these kids I see have thick lush hair and flawless skin. I have thin receding hair and acne face. I am treating the acne so thats gotten better and I know that DHT is a factor in both hairloss and acne. Still tho, these kids will eat pure cheese pizza and beer diets and hardly ever work out while I stay fit and their skin is still clear and everyone has thicker hair.
I know its not 100% related as my friend is verrry far left and near completely bald, but he is a high testosterone guy. Full beard at like 15 and started thinning in his teens. When I would go back home I would see a good buddy and now that we are adults and have some education under our belt would talk politics and found we have completely different views as well. Me pretty far right and him pretty far left. His hairline has matured and maybe like an NW1 but very thick head of hair. Another good buddy who is more conservative has thick hair although his family has no history of male pattern baldness but his dad has receded quite a bit, but he has receded already to near his dads level, like and NW2.5 but just thick hair.
I am a human biology major and there is a lot of research into epigenetics, how environmental factors trigger genes to turn on. Like I said I wish so bad I could just grow out long hair and look like these hipsters and wear stupid **** and not give a an F, but I just can't. It's the hand I've been dealt with. Everyone has to admit their looks go with their personalities a little bit. Look at Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, Russell Brandt, and Bruce Willis. We develop into ourselves mentally and physically through our experiences and choices. Could this be happening with us bald guys? I've always been told I'm an old soul and very mature for my age. Could this go with the fact that studies say people find bald guys appear more wise? I really am just spitballing but as health sciences major and part time philosopher, jk, these are the observations I have made in my short life.
Please let me know your guys' thoughts and political orientation. There may be a correlation, and although no cure to baldness, would definitely make for an interesting observation. Thanks.
