Well..I always thought minoxidil was not working for me. I did not see any regrowth but I did not lose much hairs while I was on minoxidil.

I could not keep up the pain of applying Rogaine in the morning as it took 2-3 hours to dry completely and made me late to work.

minoxidil also gave me a puffed face. :x :x :x

In utter frustration I dropped minoxidil..and just after 6 months use and quitting it..I did not see any change in my hair for 3 months, until the horror of quit minoxidil shed was seen.

I lost tons of hair..and basically the horse shoe pattern is visible now.

To all minoxidil users...do not drop minoxidil ...trust me...I never believed other horror stories on this forum about quitting minoxidil..till I experienced it personally.

The Rogaine pack may say in plain simple words..that stopping the usage of Rogaine you will simply lose all regrown hairs...but guys..believe me..its more to it. :-x :-x

I'll point out again for the umpteenth time that Vera Price's study on topical minoxidil provides evidence that after stopping topical minoxidil, you _do_ lose even more hair than what you had gained on the drug, but that effect is just temporary (on average, of course). You eventually get back to where you would have been, had you never used it in the first place. Check out these graphs from the study:

I think we need a Bryan's Studies thread in the research area.

When you quit, you'll lose everything you gained, everything you saved and then some down to the point where you would have been by now if you never started. Possibly even some more - but that would be a temporary shed.

minoxidil rocks.

I just finished my 3rd bottle. (been about 4 months since i only use it on the hairline) and am really starting to get real and beneficial results.

I really should have done a before and after shot, just to shut up all the people whining about minoxidil destroying their hairline on this forum.

Sorry to hear that.

Dr Lees item #500 dries in 10 to 30 minutes. Have you ever considered using that?

Cassin..thanks for your suggestion...I have been suggested Dr. Lees minoxidil by many people on this forum earlier ...but now I have decided to keep minoxidil as my last weapon. Now its time to jump onto the Finasteride train...have an appointment with a Dermatologist this Friday..where I will ask him to prescribe me Proscar.

I have made a compromise and basically would like thickening of existing hair and maintanence for long term. If I dont respond to finasteride, then I will get back to minoxidil. :x

Thanks for the reply Bryan. Your graph is saved as a favorite...from long time..even before I started minoxidil. I sure hope I recover from this shed...and things get back a bit more decent. :freaked2:

Well its been 3 months..I should had recovered by now. I dont think my hair would had been in this state if i did not use minoxidil ever at all. Before starting minoxidil only my front was thinning and even though my minoxidil application was only on front..after quitting...my vertex has got thin and top is veryyyy thin now. :-x :-x

I am not whining. minoxidil did give me a puffed face. :x
On the HLH forum, the veteran posters usually recommend dropping minoxidil if you are having a puffed face.

When you had issues did you ever try 2% or drop 5% to once per day?

If not, should you ever consider Minoxidil again I think you should try this first. I really think more people should give one of these options a shot when they have problems.

On a side note, 2% dries VERY fast just like Dr Lees 5%.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the advice Cassin. Your advices are always very useful and encouraging. :) :)

I have taken the plunge into finasteride. I will consider adding minoxidil to my regimen after 1 year if i need it. I have hopes of maintanence with Finasteride.. :hairy:
