Please read thios thread i started. It has pics.

http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... hp?t=28695

There is NO ONE in my family who is bald. Not my sister, mum, or dad. None of my dad's bros/sisters neither his parents, and the same for my mum's family. In fact they all have a good head of hair.

Then there's me. Please see pics in other thread.

Now what i really want to do is before starting Propecia, or Minoxidil is to find out what the problem really is. No-one seems to really want to find out. Are there ANY TESTS I CAN DO to find out?

I live in the UK.

This website seems to provide a lot of male pattern baldness info but not much on other types of hairloss. I understand that this is because for the majority of men MPBV is the reason. Can anyone recommend what I should read that can give me other possible reasons. My sister mentioned thyroid problems, and in the other thread someone mentioned diiffuse thinning..what is that?

Anyways please help me diagnose the reason for the hair loss, as i do think starting a treatment without knowing the problem would be stupid on my part.

Thanks

Ross

male pattern baldness usually begins with receeding temples, followed by crown thinning.

Looks like that's what you have. If you have lost that much hair in only two years, I would book an apointment with a dermatologist and take some blood tests and look at your lifestyle to see what else could be causing it. As I said in the other thread, it definately looks like male pattern baldness and it can skip generations so don't take the fact that none of your direct relatives don't have thinning as a reason to dobt it.

Have you got patchy hair loss anywhere else on your scalp, or thinning in non male pattern baldness areas? if so, you may have something else, if not, I'm afraid to say it's most likely male pattern baldness. It concerns 99% of male hair loss that's why you'll see so much about it compared with other forms of hairloss in men.

It looks like male pattern baldness. You can still get it, even if no-one in your family has it. It's just bad luck on your part.

What was the treatment you were quoted £1,800 going to be?
