Do Any Other Finasteride Users Feel Like The Drug Has More Of An Effect With Time?

What's up everyone,

I have been on finasteride 1mg a day for the past 2 years and 3 months and feel as though my hair quality continues to grow thicker with time. Was wondering if anyone else shared the same experience? And believe me I know you're not gonna find much positive reviews on these forums but somebody must be out there. Hopefully it continues on this positive trend (knock on wood) or at least maintains forever and ever *let's make this last forever*.

That's awesome man! I have heard quite a few detailed accounts of finasteride improving both hair quality and density over longer periods of time. Stick with it. It makes sense to me. Hair cycles. Hair grows incredibly slow. It may be that some of the miniaturized hair is going through a few cycles, so the follicle can rearrange itself, grow deeper into the dermis and produce a thicker, terminal hair. Stick with it!! If it's effects ever become decreased, you can always increase dosage or try dutasteride.

Nope - you're lucky. I've been on it for 20 years, and while it definitely slowed the progression of my hair loss (I started losing at around 18, and still have a Norwood 2.5 20 years later), my hair is still thinning.

That's awesome, hopefully it's not getting too thin! Occulus, I have a few questions. Have you been taking finasteride and minoxidil without any breaks all this time? Also, how does your hair compare to when you started? Lastly, do you mind sharing pictures from when you started treatment to what your hair looks like now? If not that's fine.

Started losing 20 years ago and ur at 2.5 now?

I'd say that's the definition of winning.

What else would you expect though? The point of taking finasteride is to keep your hair and he has done just that. I'm sure there's many other people who had more success than him who don't come on these forums.

@occulus do you mind sharing a picture? I'm just curious to see what 20 years on finasteride got you. Feel free to delete it after.

Yeah wow finasteride definitely helped you. I have seen stories where people use it for 15 years and kept all their hair and more so too bad you're not one of them, but hey at least you're not bald and there are other options like a hair transplant (hopefully there will be more options in the near future.)

Last question. How would you rate your hair for your age compared to other men?

Started thinning at 18, still an Norwood 2.5 at 40 with full coverage. That's amazing if you think about it, all things considering. And you have t consistently used minoxidil or had a hair transplant yet so you've still got lots of room to manoeuvre. Count your blessings, yeah you're unluck to have balding genes, but by nature you should be so much worse off... That's real success.
