Hey guys, i posted on this forum 3 months ago (Im 20 years old) about how i was losing hair on temples and someone suggested getting on minoxidil 5 nizoral and finasteride. I started on nizoral hoping for results but found none so today i decided to start on minoxidil and have a couple of questions. My hair on the crown is very thick almost all my hair is really thick except my temples who now are thinning and my hairline that has vellus hair all over. So my questions about minoxidil 5 is:
1. Can i use it only on my temples until I see some crown thinning and start using it there too? You might say to use it on the crown even though its thick but im afraid of the shedding that might occur at first and also the unessesary exposure of my crown to minoxidil.
2. Also say i stop minoxidil will my hair loss accelerate? Or will it continue as it should have been? In other words lets say without minoxidil i should have lost at 30 years old 50% of my hair will it become lets say 70% if i were to use minoxidil and stop at 29?
3. Finally how can someone apply minoxidil on long hair? Will applying it on most areas of scalp even benefit the areas i could rub minoxidil on?
4. Will any minoxidil brand be good enough or should it be rogaine? (I bought minoxidil from a french company as rogaine isnt available in my country)
I would really appreciate your help regarding any of these questions. Im going to open a new thread in a couple of days showing pictures of my current hair loss and updating it along with my treatment.

I honestly wouldn't recommend minoxidil, no joke.
My reasons are:
It's short term, meaning it looses it's effectiveness after a couple years (if that)
Will and most likely cause you to shed.
Does not stop hairs from being attacked.
It does not slow down male pattern baldness, it only hides it.
The moment you stop, give it a day or a week you'll see insane shedding and loose all so called 'progress' and more usually.
Messy.
Costs actual money.

Seriously propecia is the best solution to hair loss.

i wouldn't recommend minoxidil either unless you really want regrowth. No one notices you are balding unless you are past a norwood 3 anyway. It is marketed as only for use at the crown, but that is only because the FDA trials were only used on the crown and they can only market it that way. It should work on the hairline. I think the "accelerated hair loss" after discontinuing minoxidil is only due to losing all the hair you gained/maintained, the end result of all that "accelerated hair loss" would be that way if the treatment would never be used in the first place anyway. The generics work fine. finasteride could regrow the villous hair on it's own provided you respond well enough

I have seen minoxidil work wonders on some guys, even on the temples. This is not the norm for most of us that use it. I don't have a problem with trying minoxidil, but think it is most effective as part of the big 3.
