DHT Levels

Interesting question that no one seems to be able to answer.

Lets say someone notices they are balding. Could be either moderate or aggressive. They get there DHT tested and it comes back significantly above the 'normal' range. There free testosterone is on the low side, however there DHT levels are extremely high.

If they take Propecia, will they have less of a chance to maintain there hair? Will the propecia only be able to stop a certain amount of DHT, thus leaving excess to attack the scalp. Is it the people with low DHT levels that are more succesful?

Please answer :)

You dont have necessarily to have high DHT levels to start balding. Genetic predisposition is more likely to be the case. If you have male pattern baldness, which means you have genetic predisposition to go bald, then higher DHT levels will consequently make you lose more hair...so we take dht inhibitors to lower the DHT levels so that the male pattern baldness doesnt have its normal progress.
You may have genetic predisposition and also normal DHT levels, you lose your hair anyway,as the follicles are genetically sensitive to it.

But I think that the more you lower your DHT levels, the more hair you will maintain, avoiding male pattern baldness or postponing it...
Why did you mention low test levels?

Im not sure thats even possible, because DHT is a by-product of testosterone. So the amount of testosterone should be directly proportional to the amount of DHT. I could be wrong, so dont quote me on that. Im not really sure what you're asking but to answer your question, I think taking Finasteride is always better than taking none. Especially if you have DHT sensetive follicles. Finasteride will always lower the DHT regardless of it levels.

Besides having high amounts of DHT has never been the problem. The smallest amount of DHT can destroy a hair follicle. You can have a very tiny amount of DHT in the system and still have LOTS of hair come out in an aggressive fashion. So really it all comes down to how sensetive the hair follicle is in each individual person.
