Here is the full study:

These results support the hypothesis that, in male animals, mild exercise enhances hippocampal synthesis of dihydrotestosterone and increases AHN via androgenenic mediation.

A more reason to be carefull with inhibit androgens in the brain

5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone could be measured in almost all samples, which suggests that this is the most important androgen in the human brain.

The above article suggesting dht is the most important androgen in the human brain was from 1983. Sure medical science has evolved since then and maybe disproved this theory but the fact that they found this connection over 30 years ago lets me know it's not some crazy propeciahelp study.

It seems you are spam posting this stuff everywhere.

Finasteride does not inhibit type 1 5alpha.

Also, n=3,3... really?

With all this being said, I have been on finasteride for a little over 10 months now, and my hair is looking better than it has in years.

DHT is important in hair loss I dont think there is much more to say there its about as proven as things can get. Its always been whats the best way to actually do something about that safely? DHT does have some important roles besides just causing male pattern baldness so long term is it something you want to inhibit altogether? I doubt all the guys taking dutasteride will care anyways until 10 or 20 years when some weird brain problem shows up that can never be linked back to dutasteride

I've realized as my hair grows longer the most obsessed with propecia I get. I'm seeing that I will no longer be able to grow my hair long the way I like ever again. This is upsetting. I try to look for reason on why taking finasteride again. Then i get a short hair cut and realize the nice simplicities of it. And that I have a good shaped head and will look ok as I lose my hair. And realize it's just hair. Why deal with nocebo and legitimate side effects. In my situation I would be stressing more over the side effects of a hormone altering drug then the stress of losing my hair. So there in lies my answer. Keep my hair short and move
on. However I do like the topic of hair loss and will probably stick around. Kind of like primo.

But for those who are contemplating taking finasteride use this for making your choice. If you are more stressed about losing hair then you would be stressed over the potential side effects of a drug then take the drug. If worrying about the sides of the drug stresses you out more than losing your hair try something else to treat it. The risk of side effects are small. You are indeed more likely to die in a car crash. But sometimes people win the lottery. For me the odds were in my favor but I don't really want to risk it again. Alan Jacobs the neurologist responded saying that he has indeed seen men taking the drug a second time have more virulent responses. Though the odds would be in my favor there is never a guarantee nothing bad won't happen.

Good advice. That is the reason I choose to take finasteride. If my feelings change, I will drop it and throw in the towel.

The efficacy and safety of androgen supplementation in older men remains controversial. Despite biochemical evidence of partial androgen deficiency in older men, controlled studies using T demonstrate equivocal benefits. Furthermore, the importance of aromatization and 5α reduction in androgen actions among older men remains unclear. Dihydrotestosterone is the highest potency natural androgen with the additional features that it is neither aromatizable nor susceptible to potency amplification by 5α reduction. Therefore, the effects of dihydrotestosterone may differ from those of T in older men. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of 3 months treatment with transdermal dihydrotestosterone gel on muscle strength, mobility, and quality of life in ambulant, community-dwelling men aged 60 yr or older. Eligible men (plasma T ≤15 nmol/liter) were randomized to undergo daily dermal application of 70 mg dihydrotestosterone gel (n = 18) or vehicle (n = 19) and were studied before, monthly during, and 1 month after treatment. Among 33 (17 dihydrotestosterone, 16 placebo) men completing the study with a high degree of compliance, dihydrotestosterone had significant effects on circulating hormones (increased dihydrotestosterone; decreased total and free testosterone, LH, and FSH; unchanged SHBG and estradiol), lipid profiles (decreased total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterols; unchanged high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides), hematopoiesis (increased hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red cell counts), and body composition (decreased skinfold thickness and fat mass; unchanged lean mass and waist to hip ratio). Muscle strength measured by isokinetic peak torque was increased in flexion of the dominant knee but not in knee extension or shoulder contraction, nor was there any significant change in gait, balance, or mobility tests, in cognitive function, or in quality of life scales. Dihydrotestosterone treatment had no adverse effects on prostate (unchanged prostate volumes and prostate-specific antigen) and cardiovascular (no adverse change in vascular reactivity or lipids) safety markers. We conclude that 3 months treatment with transdermal dihydrotestosterone gel demonstrates expected androgenic effects, short-term safety, and limited improvement in lower limb muscle strength but no change in physical functioning or cognitive function.

That was a very nice post. However I don't quite understand a lot of it because I'm a businessman and not well known in science. It's good to know extra dht doesn't improve or impair cognitive function. Could be very well a sign that decreasing dht will have the same effect. My cognitive function has always been there. I can only describe a small disconnection feeling from my brain emotions and body. My face will be naturally smiling with joy but brain will feel nothing. I can get goosebumps but not have the same tingly sensation in my brain and down my spine. I think there are other important hormones being blocked other than dht. There are deeper more complex brain activity questions that I'm concerned about that I just don't feel comfortable taking a 5 a reductase inhibitor that blocks type 2 and type 3. We don't know a lot about the third type. I appreciate this information and it definitely helps to partially answer many of my concerns. Thank you.
