Desperate teenager: Help, am I starting to bald?

Here's my situation, I am 18 years old and would like a bit of help before consulting physician.
I have an Asian father with normal hair, who haven't seemed to have noticable hairloss. My paternal grandparents doesn't either.

My Caucasian mother has shed some hairs due to stress, however my maternal grandfather is bald.

I have shed hairs for as long as I can remember, but after reading about male pattern baldness on the internet I got really scared, with lots of sleepless nights., because of the maternal grandfather being bald.

After this I have an obsession of combing my hand through my hair to count how many hairs fall out.

A few minutes ago while looking myself in the mirror I noticed my front hairline is contracted in the upper corners, but also assymetrical due to more contraction on my left side, here's a picture of it:

I've never noticed it before, is this due to male pattern baldness?
Please help, I am so terrified.

personally id say its too early to tell. im 18 as well and ive got a pretty strong NW2, which is way beyond what youve got. id say watch the hairline for the next 6 months and if you see a drastic change then jump onto finasteride asap and youll probably keep it v. much under control.

It might be possible that your temples are receding a little bit, but that might just be a mature hairline. (Look it up.)

Just keep an eye on it for the next few months (take pictures) and if it gets worse, go see a dermatologist to get an male pattern baldness diagnosis; this way, if it turns out to be something else, you will have spared yourself an immense amount of anguish and despair.

Thanks for the replies, I checked out my brothers and fathers hairline for comparison.
My brother has the same on both sides and my father the same top hairline.

I went to the doctor today, told her about how I lost hair. She took a quick look and said it was due to dandruff/fungus which explains the itchyness I have been having.
She prescribed I bought some Nizoral which I bought today.

However, my head is constantly filled with thoughts of balding, and it's affecting me emotionally. It's all I can think of.
Because I really want find answers to the male pattern baldness, do you think my dandruff/hairloss is related to it?

thanks.

:punk: Hey man, try to relax. Make sure you are eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables (at least five portions, pick your favourites from the market). Plus drink at least a couple of litres of water a day.

Your still a young man. The stress will make you lose your hair.

Stay cool.

+1 to that. eating healthy and all that will stop you being a fatty and help you run away from any bears or robots you might encounter but it wont do sh*t all for male pattern baldness.

So youre saying it could be male pattern baldness?

im so scared i need calming down

Yes, you are definitely balding. I expect you to lose it all within the next 6 months, it looks very, very aggressive.

Get a grip man. You have a female hairline, and there's absolutely zero sign of any loss out of the ordinary.

Rule of thumb: if you have to ask whether you are balding or not, you're not.

It's not only due to my hairline, however I am shredding a lot of hairs.

In a thread about dandruff hairloss I came across this post:

"Be careful, this could be the first sign of male pattern baldness. I remember running my index finger through my scalp at age 21 or so and feeling these keratinized plugs. Almost like a grain of sand. I too wondered if it was dandruff. This despite daily washing of my hair.

Key question : Do these "white things" you notice have a tiny (miniturized) hair attached to them? Sort of like a tiny hair imbedded in an enlarged white bulb?

That is usually a dead giveaway of the onset of male pattern baldness.

Please let us know. "

And I think I match the description so I am very afraid.
I have also noticed that my hair diameter is thinner towards the end of the hair with the bulb, it decreases in the last 1-2 cm. My doctor told me hair grows approximately 1 cm/month which is roughly how long time I've been experiencing this hairloss.
I have not washed my hair so much lately, like 1 time/week because I was always busy.
Is this dandruff that clogs the follicles or male pattern baldness?

You've developed a mature hairline, relax.

It'll stop here or a tiny, tiny bit further and you won't lose any more until male pattern baldness kicks in (which could be 20, 30 years from now - it might never happen).

Thanks a lot, this has really helped on my nerves.
For some reason, I have thought a lot about losing my hair lately, cause it's only when you know you might lose something you start appreciating it.
