Density needed for buzz/short cuts?

This is something i've been wondering about

Hypothetical situation : Person with serious balding, talking NW6/7, no hair on top of their head. ~7-8000 available donor hairs (or whatever average is)

If these 7-8k grafts were distributed evenly over the head in the pattern of a NW1/2 --

If they grow their hair out, it would look bad because the density would be something around ~30-40% of normal. very whispy apperance.

However -- What if they buzzed the hair with a very short guard -- would the lower density still be apparent, or would it be disguised by the fact that you alway see scalp with low guard cuts?

I've never seen a picture of someone with this style of haircut and transplant or otherwise low density, so im curious.

I mean this is probably being absurdly hopeful - but if this style looked good .. it would be a legit alternative to baldness (.. an expensive alternative but one nonetheless)

Hmm that is pretty low, had no idea the top of the head was 100k

any estimate as to how many would be needed? or is it the same 50% that is oftened quoted

I would never get a hair transplant just to buzz the hair down. You're left with a scar on the back as well as a hairline that might look kinda fake even from the best hair transplant doctors.

I'd just keep it buzzed to 0 or shave it and be done with it, screw hair at that point.

It would not work, the density would only be around 8% of the 100,000 hairs that a baseline person would have. To achieve enough density you would have to incorperate body hair and beard hair as well...

You would actually have more like 16% density b/c often there are 2 or 3 hairs per follicle, not just one. However, the density would still be low and you'd have that huge scare.

this would be using FUE of course. that scar is killer

The thing about using FUE is that you get a lower yield. You'd need to use body hair as someone mentioned. Not sure how natural this would look and Hat prisoner says that it'll cost $100k. Also, some say that that scars from FUE will be obvious with a complete buzz cut. I'm not convinced about that though.

I have read several people believe that a NW6 is not worth a transplant because the needed grafts is too high. If the average head has 100,000 hairs, and an average folicle has 2 hairs, then there are 50,000 follicles on adult head. On my observations, a typical NW6 (top of head) is approximaley 40% of the overall hair, therefore 20,000 grafts would be required for the full density. If 50% of that is all that is need for "illusion of density" then we are looking at 10,000 grafts. If the crown is left sparse, then 8,000 would explain the total needed for pretty good results seen on many sites such as H/W.

Still need 8,000 though at $4 per graft :(
