Dat Puffy Face

First day out on Minoxidil Foam seemed fine, but by the end of the day face was getting red and puffy. Hurt externally and got a headache. Only applied it once.

I think I am going to take the route I did with finasteride to avoid side effects, which is creep into it insanely slowly. Maybe put minoxidil on once every 5 days or so for a while, then slowly bump that up until everyday on down the road. It gives your body time to adjust. Worked this way for finasteride, hopefully it will for minoxidil. I don't want to write it off this quickly, but if it threatens to **** my face up I will be done with it lol. Hair you can replace. Skin is a little tougher to correct.

Regular old apply to the head. I don't buy into the hype of a medication good or bad, so the past rumors be damned. But, this is what happened. From what I get doing some research, it can really vary how it effects people. Some notice no sides, some a lot. Some it works for, some it doesn't. We shall see. Here's more of my report;

I had heard a lot of people complaining about greasiness. I put the foam on, and in a very short time my hair looked like it had before I put the minoxidil in. So the plus is that the foam really is no hassle at all. I was like really? What the hell are people complaining about?

The flip: Well, later I think I see what some people were saying. I don't know if I had a reaction or it was just something new to my system, but my face started hurting which was really strange. My cheeks got puffy red basically. I guess it has to do with absorption. It wasn't like a bee sting reaction or anything, just a bit of puffiness in the cheeks that wasn't there before and a change in color a bit. Popped some Ibuprofen for the headache and felt better.

Just my experience, but am not putting it down in any way. Going to ease on to it slowly now. Maybe do smaller amounts than 'half a cap' at a time as it says. When I originally took finasteride beginning at 1mg I got the sexual side effects, but later after quitting I eased back on and slowly worked up, sides did not come back. Hope it's the same with this. If not, eh, just stick with finasteride only or hair transplant. Different strokes for different folks.

I have a similar problem with minoxidil but I use liquid, I get the circles right away also, I reduced the amount I use and then only once a day generally, no more problems. some of us are unlucky, I dermaroll also and tried minoxidil immediately after once and holy crap you want to talk sides lol
I do seem to be less sensitive on it now after 5-6 weeks, I also started shedding in 3 weeks which I hope is a good sign???????

Just an update. So I waited a week before using minoxidil a second time. My face went back to normal in that week (de-puffed), though a small blemish remained, like a very light sun spot. Eh, no biggie, if it doesn't go away easily removed or whatever.

Second time I used it (a week later) I applied less than before. Happy to say that there was almost zero puffiness this time around (very slight redness in the checks), and face didn't hurt. Unfortunately, the headache still was there, really bad the next day. I am taking another day off before using it again. Also used a lot of face lotion in case of dryness.

The plus is kinda weird but I don't mind it. A lot of people complain that it agitates their scalp. For me it actually feels kinda good, not itchy at all, just warm. So there's that.

Stuff seems pretty powerful, so at 5%, I think less is more for this guy. I might make it to twice a day sometime, but if it's just once a day then that would work just fine as well hopefully. Everyone's different, but if you have a sensitive system (I do, always have gotten away with taking less doses of meds for the same effect) 5% is pretty strong and once a day may be all you need or can take. If it does mess with you immediately, I would recommend easing into it as opposed to assaulting your system with it. More updates to come.

More update. So I took five days between my second and third use of the minoxidil. Day one was puffy face, a week later day 2 was bad headache for two days, did day 3 four days ago. Happy to say no face puff or headache. Hopefully I am adapting to it.

Here's the real weird thing, there are a few positive side effects. It actually happened all three times I used it. First it feels good on my scalp, and two it actually makes me more alert and juiced like I had strong coffee. I don't know if it's bcause it's a vasodilator, but whatever. I went out that night and had tons of energy lol. So there's a plus. That's my report for day three.

I don't know if I would do the liquid as from what I have read it has more potential to get into your face than the foam, which dries out super fast. Plus it's not oily at all. Again advice for people getting started with minoxidil (or finasteride), just ease into it really really slow. Of course I put out a disclaimer in case later we find out all this stuff is not good for you at all.

Anyway, I will be using it every other day here soon and see how that goes.

Quick update. It's been over a month, I slowly worked my way up to twice a day. Here's what I have to report.

No side effects. The ones that I had are gone, no puffy face, headaches, or anything else. Again though, I gradually worked up to two times a day. The positives are good, one thing I have noticed is that it makes my hair (and facial hair) grow faster. It feels thicker, but don't want to jump the gun yet and say new growth, maybe some of my temple hair actually but that's debatable. General thickening feels real though. All in all hair looks more healthy and thicker/darker. No big sheds yet, but that may still be in the mail.

I also have that weird result that is kinda cool, I actually get an energy kick/heightened focus similar to caffeine after applying it. Can't really explain that one except that maybe it's the vasodilator effect.

Finally, applying foam is like the easiest thing ever, at first I thought twice a day would be a hassle, I actually like applying it. It really isn't a biggie and dries out quickly. Some people complain about irritation, feels nice on my scalp so far. It really is just hair management, some people put product in their hair everyday that doesn't do anything but style, I say why not use something everyday that has a real positive benefit. Hell, I don't think there is even a reason to be shy about it. You brush your teeth, you take care of your hair.

Anyway, that's the update thus far. Good luck all!

Glad its working, though id be really surprised if you are actually seeing benefit in a month, other than the product thickening your hair in the same way hair gel does. Growth cycles take months (andtypically minoxidil actually causes increased shedding in the first few months).

Since it obviously has more of a systemic effect on you than others, just be warned to keep an eye out on side effects, I started to develop obvious rings under my eyes and im pretty confident it left me with wrinkles under my eyes which I dont think are ever going to go away now. Im not the only one who has experienced this. I'd just say, take some photos now in proper lighting and if you have doubts down the line use them for comparison for proof, the mind can play tricks.
