First, this is not me saying Cushing syndrome is a cure for male pattern baldness, so don't get your hope up.

However, there is a substance found in many medicines called betamethasone. Apparently if someone were to overdose on this(not like ODing on cocaine) they can develop what is known as cushing sydrome.

* Symptoms of Cushing's syndrome may include:
Acne, depression, excessive hair growth, high blood pressure, humped upper back, insomnia, moon-faced appearance, muscle weakness, obese trunk, paranoia, stretch marks, susceptibility to bruising, fractures, infections, retardation of growth, wasted limbs

this quote was taken from http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/dip1141.htm
and i don't know how relyable this site is, if you want to know more i suggest you ask someone with expertise in this field.

anyway you may want to note excessive hair growth. Does anyone know how this occurs when betamethasone is supposed to be a synthetic cortisone-like steroid and steroids promote testosterone and thus DHT?

The answer is simple. Many people believe Steroids are Steroids. Not so - Anabolic Steroids cause such things as increased body hair growth, male pattern baldness, muscle growth, acne, etc. Don't confuse Anabolics with Coriticos. The Coritico Steroids don't masculinize, but rather, have an anti-inflamatory effect. Prior to the current "gold standard big 3 treatments", some Gen. Practitioners would prescribe topical anti-inflamatory creams or even give scalp injections of Cortisone for hair loss. Some reported fair to good results with such treatments. Indeed, it does appear that inflamation plays a role in male pattern baldness.
