Curious about Hairline/Hair-loss

Hey guys I was just wondering if you guys can help me out by letting me if this looks like the beginning stages of hair loss on my hairline.. Personally I think it looks really bad and I'm quite worried, but I'd like to get some feedback in terms of opinions about how it looks and possibly a route of action I should take. Currently I'm using 1% Nizoral shampoo several times a week.. I've been using it close to a month so I'm definitely not expecting any results out of it yet or for awhile. I will also say that I've been seriously contemplating getting a prescription for Propecia, but I'm having a hard time finding a dermatologist that specializes in hair/hair-loss in my area (Part of the reason I'm posting this).

On a side note I will say that my major worry about taking Propecia is the shedding.. I know the shedded hairs are supposed to come back thicker and stronger, but in the mean time that hair is still missing and can result in a very bad looking head of hair. I'm also curious as to where I would be on the Norwood scale although it might be hard to tell due to the picture quality along with my widow's peak (I've always had my widow's peak; it hasn't formed due to my temples moving back or anything).

Here's some pictures:

1. you will never see results on a nizoral-only regimen it is far far too weak. Make sure you don't use it too much (Almost every day) or it ruins your hair.

You should start finasteride .5mg or 1.25mg daily, and stay on the nizoral

So does the hair-loss look very bad to you or does it look like it's just starting? I've been a lurker on this site and a couple others and I've heard people discuss a mature hairline.. Could that be a possibility with my hairline?

its unlikely that the loss is going to stop, especially if you are only in your 20s. You will probably lose most of your hair eventually if you don't start finasteride

Well my hair seems to be developing just like my dad's; he still has full coverage at 46 except for on his temples which are receded. With that said his temples have very slowly receded over the years so I'm not too worried about losing most of my hair since that's highly unlikely; I'm mostly just worried about my hairline.

On a side note though.. Isn't mid-20's quite common for mild hair loss in men?

Anybody else have any thoughts/suggestions?

I wouldn't say its unlikely. One's father is not a reliable indicator of what to expect from your own hairloss.

The earlier hairloss starts as a general rule the worse it will eventually become, with the 20s being fairly early

I agree with the first part of what you've said since it comes down to genetics it doesn't necessarily have to follow my dad's hair loss nor any family member for that matter, but with that said it's still an indicator. I will say that my dad's hairline started to recede over a decade ago at an extremely slow rate, but has been going steady without anymore recession for probably 5 or more years (I whipped out some old photo albums to check on my hair and his). That's part of my reasoning for thinking if nothing is done my hair will follow the same path as his.

The second portion I disagree with though; many people experience natural hair loss in their 20's due to maturing whether it just be slight thinning or their hairline "maturing". Both are very common and I've seen a lot of talk about this happening.

Who knows you may luck out and it may just be a mature hair line? My grandfather from my dad's side had a full head of hair into his 90's, my uncles all had a full head of hair, my dad is a NW7, so the genetics thing didn't help him. My hair loss is similar to the pattern my great grandfather had. As long as you have the gene, there is a chance you may be screwed. If you are not ready to commit to treatment, then hold off, but keep an eye on it. Take pics often and compare. If it turns out that you are balding, don't wait too long to act or it may be too late.

I'm definitely making sure that I'm keeping an eye on it.. Maybe a little too much :p

I'm curious about where I would be on the Norwood scale.. Can you tell from the pictures I posted?
