Hi Guyz,
I have been a long time reader of this site. Thanks everyone for all the constructive opinions. I thought its my turn to add my 2 cents worth.
I am now 24, I have been suffering from Hairloss since 17. When I was 19, I went on a program that comprised of Minoxidil (6% + 0.01% RetA) & Proscar.
This did wonders for my hair, within 2 years I was back to NW1, with no visible signs of hair loss. During the time I was aware of the negative sides of Proscar however decided to ignore it, as I was getting great results up on top. So when the Doctor asked me weather I was suffering from loss in libido, my answer was no! I guess I was scared he wouldn't prescribe Proscar to me. As time went on I noticed it getting worser. Sure I could get it up, but it was very soft, and I noticed I was no where near as into sex as I had been earlier.
Towards the end of last year, I consulted some other GP's and they told me to get off it immediately. That it was a very dangerous drug, and the 1-2% affected does not tell the true story. One doctor even warned me, aside from the obvious sexual problems, there was a chance I may not be able to even have kids in the furture. So as much as I hated it, I dropped Proscar in September 2006. However I continued minoxidil.
Keen to do something about it, I surveyed around and finally went to a Homeopath. I was skeptical in the beginning. I could still remember in Dec, following the stoppage of Proscar I started losing hair. Aside from being pretty depressed, I even contemplated stopping Homeopathy, and going back on Proscar. At the time, I started getting so depressed, that hairloss consumed me, and I questioned the point of life. Pretty pathetic I know! So I thought whats the point even if I have kids in the future if I am not happy.
I vented this to my Homeopath, he told me temporary hairloss was a good sign! I was like WHAT??? He continued and said, Homeopathy works on bringing the body back to equilibrium and that the negative affects of Proscar would have to be administered to first. I dont know why but I took his word for it although I started seeing patches up front. All this time he said there was no problem using minoxidil.
Looking back on it now, I'm am sooooooooo glad I stuck with it. Its nearly August now, and my hairloss has completely stopped! I was rubbing quite a lot of oil on my head the other day, with rigourous massaging and there was only like 2 strands that came out. Same time back in Dec, I was getting 100's. Anyhow, using minoxidil on the side has helped me get back what I had temporarily lost up front.
Moral of the story I guess is, if you are suffering from Proscar sides, give Homeopathy a shot. Give it time & you wont regret it.
