Hiya sorry I went quiet
To be honest I've still been learning like crazy, it's amazing how many possible reasons there seem to be for hair loss. Brian (basically my mentor lol) said I should check for hypothyroidism, as he thinks that is one of the largest causes (if not THE cause) of male pattern baldness hair loss amongst younger guys. At least I believe that's what he thinks.
I may have been off a little by pointing a finger at insulin levels, but I do believe that they too play a part as all these things affect hormonal balance, amongst other things.
I checked my thyroid with a temperature test and found that according to what I'm reading, it seems to be underactive. For me therefore, the solution seems to be to correct my diet, and counteract things that are caused by my anxiety/stress, such as an underactive thyroid, reduced SHBG levels and increased inflammation (and one other thing that I don't understand yet!)
In your case, perhaps you too need to work out what is the underlying trigger for your hair loss. Most people on here seem to be members of the finasteride brigade, but there seem to be many possible underlying factors that can cause male pattern baldness as far as I can tell, and merely cutting down 5ar/DHT levels I feel is a very sloppy and probably ultimately doomed way to combat the problem.
I am sorry I am flip-flopping a bit, but you have to understand this is quite new to me too and I have learnt so much so fast. I also had many suspects for my hair loss, as I have anxiety, my diet was bad (exactly the kind many feel increases hair loss and upsets many hormones) and I had a sudden change in my skin also. (It went lighter, thinner and drier, which is a classic sign of hypothyroidism).
In your case, for now yes you can jump on some light finasteride, lignans and Nizoral (I'll tell you how to do this and where to get them in a sec) but in the long run, I would very much recommend to try to outline the underlying cause.
There is a small chance I believe that I am wrong and that yes some gene is "turned on" at some point and then you can't turn it back, but I don't really believe this at the moment, not according to what I have learnt. And irrespective of that, I believe that there are real triggers.
For finasteride and that, I get Finpecia from Inhouse Pharmacy and cut it into quarters, at the moment I'm just on 0.25mg every other day (this won't do much but just takes the very peak off of your DHT I believe, and can always be increased to every day if you feel the need). Even less but every day is probably fine too.
Lignans you can get from
http://www.swansonvitamins.com, they sell SDG and HMR (the best) I believe. Many are also available on ebay (under Swanson brand and all sorts) but I don't think HMR is on there. I am on SDG at the moment but only really because I didn't know about HMR at the time. Flax seeds work too but have more potential sides, and I like to know EXACTLY what I am taking and what it does!
Nizoral is at Boots
Well, good luck man I'll send you a short PM as well - Peace!
