I know that you arent supposed to do it, because it just increases stress and anxiety. But i garentee that over 70% of people here do it, even the ones that tell other people not to.. I do, its a bad habbit, like popping pimples or starting to floss.. But it doesnt make me as depressed as it used to because i know that im on a medically proven treatment now :D. happy

I'll confess that I do it from time to time, but lately it's been making me happy, not freaking me out. I don't know if it means much, but going from 50-60 hairs on my hands while shampooing to 10-20 since I started treatment can't be a bad thing. If nothing else, it helps me panic less often.

I just started counting hairs in the shower. :(

Before taking proscar i would only see the odd one or two hairs and when doing the pull test with my whole hand i would only get 1-2 hairs.

Now i'm a little over 3 weeks on proscar and i see about 10 hairs(maybe more hard to tell) in the shower and when doing the pull test it's fairly easy to get 5 or so hairs each pull.

WTF? I hear tons of people talk about shedding months into using finasteride but is it possible to start shedding this early?

I admit i use to do it but it became a mind f***.I spent the rest of the day thinking i lost X amount of hairs today and would dread the next time i washed my hair. Its a unhealthy thing to do.Whats more important isnt so much now many hairs you lose when you wash your hair its what is on your head that counts. As people without a hair loss condition lose hair.

Pheew...I thought it was only me! I'm now on my second week of propecia and I'm shedding like mad (at least I think so). Doing the "pull-test" i easily get 5-6 hair falling out. I've been on minoxidil for 4 months before starting propecia and experienced great regrowth. Now that i started propecia (2 weeks ago) I seem to be loosing a lot. I've got 2 theories:

1. The hair hair that is now falling out is what minoxidil regrew for me (I was practically bald on the top, but after 4 months on minoxidil i've grown quite a lot. No where near full head of hair though, you can still see straight through to my scalp). The majority of the hair that falls out is colourless (not vellus) or a bit of colour, but no terminal hairs (maybe 1 terminal hair). I'm hoping these will grow out to be thicker terminal hairs.

2. I know I'm a good responder to minoxidil and hope that I am to propecia too. I'm hoping that the reason my hair falls out now (mainly colourless or a bit coloured hair (not vellus)) is that propecia has kicked in and kicked the sh*t out of those colourless hair and that proper terminal hair are lurking underneath the surface waiting to come out in a month or two.

I'm sure there's the 3rd option which is, tough sh*t, you're loosing your hair wether you like it or not and no amount of drugs are going to make it stop or reverse!

BUT, i'd much rather believe in option 1 or 2. At least I'm not the only one to experience a major shed after 2 weeks on propecia. I was expecting, as were you nervx, a shed after a few months.....not 2 weeks. At least I'm in the same boat as someone else.

Wish us luck!

I dont count but just take a quick look at my hands to see if the number of hairs is roughly the same every time.

I would only worry if it changed a lot.

Most of the hair i notice falling out is also very fine and light in color. Hope this is a good sign. If it is and we're responding this fast we could be in for some very nice results. *Crosses fingers
