Hi guys,

I'm based in London....I'm 25 and been experiencing gradual thinning over the past few years. I've had consultations at the Belgravia Centre and Farjo clinic and would appreciate your advice on what to do next.

Belgravia: They recommended taking Propecia and Minioxidil, both in solution form to be used on the scalp morning and night. Said they were confident that they could stop my hair loss with these treatments and I could possibly even see some regrowth in the areas where DHT hadn't completely eroded the follicles. Suggested 6 monthly check-ups and a revised treatment plan if things weren't going according to plan.

Farjo: They recommended taking Finasteride in tablet form and Minoxidil as part of the Regaine package. However they intimated that Minoxidil does not have a huge effect, it's more of a booster to the Finasteride. They were a lot more downbeat than Belgravia, seemed to say that there was little chance of hair regrowth and really emphasized that they couldn't 100% promise the products would work. Told me to come back in a year's time for a check-up.

Belgravia said I might see results in 3-6 months....Farjo said 6 months - 1 year.

Overall, I was more encouraged by Belgravia but then maybe they're just good salespeople....I would prefer to take Finasteride in tablet form if possible as that's more convenient then having to squirt some solution on the scalp morning and night. Does anyone know if it makes any difference, the way you take it?

Right now I'm considering taking just Finasteride for 6 months to see what happens to save on money. What do you think?

I think I might also take amino acids as I've heard positive things on the internet that some supplements can be really good (http://www.hold-on-to-your-hair.com/milestones-in-my-fight-against-hair-loss.html). Is this true?

Finally, can anyone recommend a good shampoo for an oily scalp?

Thanks!

You prefer Belgravia because they are more telling you what you want to hear. Farjo has the best reputation in the UK for transplants, Belgravia not so much.

What they want you to do is buy all the products through them with a big mark up, but you can buy minoxidil and finasteride on line for a quarter of the price. Take finasteride and give it at least 9 months beofre considering any other options, but I advise you carry on reading up about hairloss, and hair transplants, as the more you know, the less you'll be ripped off, and there are a lot of scammers in the hairloss industry.
