hey guys
I'm a 21 year old asian male suffering from hairloss. the dermatologists in my area are of no use as they dont even bother examining me properly. they take one look at my hair and laugh it off saying its nothing.probably due to the fact that i have 'fluffy' hair..they 'fluff' up after i shampoo and explode till it seems i have a headfull of hair, dont know how long that'll last .

The scenario here is, my dad at the age of 54 still has hair. my mom has hair, my elder brother (27 yrs old) has hair, my sister has hair. both grandfathers had hair. I'm the only one losing hair this bad. could it be genetics? My dad has 4 brothers and only one is bald. My mom has 2 brothers and one of them is bald as well. should i be considering genetics when it comes to only 2 uncles? My hairline has'nt receded as such even though i've been clogging up the sink since the past 4 years but now when my hair is wet you can tell its thinned out as you can see my scalp.the sides have taken a somewhat 'm' shape.i am not growing hair back as fast as i'm losing it.its basically frontal thinning so if i comb out my usual 'middle parting' the hair just falls dead on the side totally lifeless. the hair on the sides and back are fine.just the front and vertex a tad bit. what i dont understand is i even lose hair that is currently growing, as in the rest of my hair are probably 3 inches long but i lose hair an inch long as well, basically hair that hasnt fully grown yet.

i also suffer from everyday stress which is not something i can combat.
everyday stress such as things people will say or do might get to be and i end up giving it alot more thought than i should.

I have had a thyroid test and it was clear. Do not have dandruff as such but i do use T/gel to clear up the little bit now and then.

both Grandfathers had a full head of hair. My father had a condition when he was 20 where his nervousness (which i probably inherited) caused him really bad stomachaches. Hes' been taking a sort of tranquilizer (Ativan) for it ever since as now hes addicted to it. Is it possible here to determine whether my hairloss is stress induced or genetic? I do not lose hair in clumps, rather diffuse but mostly from the frontal region. As long as i take my hand through my hair i keep on ending up with 5 or 6 everytime till i stop.

I have dry frizzy hair since the age of 18, though it wasnt that way before, now its impossible to tame and have a hairstyle unless i use a hairgel or spray though i do not use too much.

I lose upto 40 hair a day i suppose. I have tried conditioners and oiling my scalp but it hasnt really helped. Could it be i have a chronic case of telogen effluvium where my everday stress is causing me to shed hair this bad?

ps. I wear a cap very very often for around 12 hours a day sometimes but i hear caps and hats causing hairloss is just a myth.

ANy feedback from you would really be appreciated. the fact that i dont even know whether this is male pattern baldness or something else is driving me crazy. since 4 years i've been clogging up the sink everytime and i would've thought i'd be bald by now.

halpp!

hey I have similar situation to you. I am also asian, 21 years old and losing my hair. There is very very little hairloss on either side of my family yet I am still losing my hair.

Where does your hairloss take place? Is it concentrated on one spot or are you losing hair all over your head?

Well like you my hairline is almost perfect and I am just losing hair from the top and vertex. Chances are you do have male pattern baldness. But you should find a good Derm to thoroughly examine you. You should also have your blood checked to rule out any other cause of hairloss.

From what I've read it takes an enormous amount of stress to cause a person to lose their hair.

Hope this helps.

muchos gracios for the feedback bro

basically in the last two years my forehead took an 'm' shape..and the hairloss is mostly frontal on the 'right' side. if i have a side parting the hair on my left look fine, but on the right they fall dead. I just found out the one uncle from my dads side who's bald is bald cause of self medication. he's a Doctor who suffers from depression and keeps taking all these drugs. so that leaves just one unc from my moms side whos bald. both parents and grandparents from both sides had hair.

took another trip to a derm in the area, sigh...my hair is poofy after i wash it and it explodes till i have something almost resembling an afro ! so he laughed it off again!...

this sucks, i should've been bald by now the amount of hair that i've lost every day since the past 4 years.

hmm...yeah you're right about the stress bit, but like i said, it was bad enough to give my dad headaches and stomach aches, i build up a great deal of stress everyday from the tiniest crap. basically really restless and nervous for no reason.

what should i get done next?.. my thyroid was fine, i'm not aneamic..taking vitamins
*shrugs
confused

re:

I am no asian but have very similar hairloss. My two grandfathers, father, and most of my uncles have a full head of hair. This made dealing with my hairloss harder. Luckily one of my frieds was balding and I was able to catch my hairloss early. Spend time researching the available treatments. i have been using finasteride and minoxidil for a few months and believe that I have had good results as I have had a small amount of regrowth and appear to be losing less hair each day. There are risks and the treatments do not appear to work for everyone. Good luck

try not to wash your hair on the day of your derm appt.

wash it the night before or even go 2 days without washing so the hair can rest and not be *** poofy.

It sure does such to have a family with full heads of hair and you're one of the very few that happen to be balding.

hellooooo

yep, i'm asian as well, and i am also a diffues thinner - i.e. little recession of hairline, but thinning on top/vertex.

krush - is your hair loss patterned, or is it in patches? If this has been going on for 4 years, then i doubt its Telogen Effluvium. obviously try to reduce the stress in your life if possible, but thats a side issue. i'd start thinking about using finasteride (aka propecia).

also could it be possible that this asian - diffuse thinning link we're seeing here is more than just a coincidence???

great!..i just read up on 'asymetric' (or however you spell it) hairloss which would explain why the hair on the right frontal side of my head is thinner than the left.

no, the hairloss is'nt in patches just general thinning on the top and front, temple hairline dont seem to be decreasing any more. so long as i take my hand through my hair i keep on ending up with at least 3 - 4 everytime. i dont get why i'm losing hair that is currently growing? as in not fully grown hair, because its not weak , its fine but still falls out. i even lose hair the size of my eye lashes!

another thing, the hair i lose doesnt really have a 'white' bulb at the end, the root is extremely tiny and can just barely be made out. and the short hair i lose dont even have the root.

2 questions

1) dont those who suffer from hairloss experiance a decrease in the rate of hair growth? cause i think the remaining hair on my head are growing fine.

2) if you wear a P-cap for a longg time why is it that it wouldnt affect the hair? doesnt the scalp need to 'breathe' ? and wouldnt it hinder growth if worn for upto 12 hours a day, wouldnt it weaken the hair?

btw, a few friends of mine with male pattern baldness reported good results from using the following mixture on the scalp once a week and steaming the hair. Use 1 tablespoon of pure coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of black caraway oil (promotes growth like anything) and 1 tablespoon of almond oil. Mix these , apply to the head and steam the hair if even from a bucket of boiling water(use a towel to prevent steam from escaping). the steaming allows the oil to penetrate and reach the roots thereby strengthening them and the fat will do wonders for the hair.
