There was a thread started that referenced (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3040039/research that showed moderate cardio work out affects hair and leads to hairloss. Apparently it's the hypotensive state post exercise that increases the dht on the scalp and it's how you manage this 2hr period that really counts.
I had no hairloss until I worked out. My hairloss was most evident when I accelerated my gym work. I went pretty much on a daily basis, did 5-6k runs and really ramped up the levels in the weights. My own research indicated that the weight training was causing the hairloss because for 20-30 mins after the training your testosterone levels go through the roof which leads to increased levels of DHT on the scalp.
Having discovered that I dropped the weight lifting element of my workout concentrating on cardio. I've still been going on a fairly regular (almost daily) basis doing at least 5 miles.
I've now discovered it was probably the running that is the cause and now I'm really worried and concerned. I'll drop the running to maybe 3 days a week but I'm tempted to stop exercising.
If I don't drop the exercise how do I best manage the 2 hr post exercise hypotensive state? Do I simply wash my hair after each run with an antiandrogen shampoo like nizoral or Nisim? What else can I do? I really am tempted to drop exercising but I do enjoy it. My hair is more important though.
