Hi, Im 30 years old, notice some recession in the temples but nothing in the crown etc, is this normal to some extent, Im considering finasteride to stop it progressing. The pic is with my hair pulled back, I can cover it easily, its just growing back from being haved down to a No 2.

Hard to tell, your hair in general looks fine. Have you noticed it get thinner? Does baldness run in your family? Keep any eye on it, it may just be your mature hairline.

Hi mate, no I dont think its got thinner really, Its just really the temples, my crown etc is 100%, maybe im a bit obsessed with it. Well my dad passed away at 47 and he had a full head of hair, although it had thinned out slightly, my drandad lost his hair and also one uncle, other two uncles are fine.

Would you not consider that balding? Is it not better to prevent that from happening?

You are definitely receding/thinning at the hairline and it is quite obvious--not hard to tell at all.

Yes, I would start finasteride if I were you and perhaps minoxidil on the hairline.

you reckon? Amazes me how there can be so many different opinions in here!

I think the others were just being nice or else didn't want to worry you too much. That is the only explanation that I can think of because it is quite obvious from your pictures that your temple is receding and your hairline is thinning. There's no sense in waiting to start treating it since it can only get worse.

I don't want to be mean but if you needed to use toppik what made you think you are not balding :S

In most cases you are the best person to say if you are or aren't balding because you know how your hair used to look like etc. When I went to derm he said "Yeah you might be balding and you could try finasteride if you feel it necessary".

My mom who's a hairdresser still said that I'm not balding, I know that she said it just because I've been so afraid of that because of my father's hair style ( he's bald as what ). Anyway after that I kept asking my sister's opinion (who works partially as a hairdresser and cuts my hair ) and after a while she agreed to say that I've lost some density ( of course I knew that ) but I shouldn't be too worried about it because it's normal at most guys around 25 years old.

So if you think you are balding you most definitely are. Sure you can be denial but let's face the fact that denying the truth won't help anything.

When my sister mentioned first time about 3 months ago that I was balding I instantly accepted that and began finding a way to do something about it. At that time I hadn't noticed thinning by myself. It was before I went to derm.
