This topic is simply a topic that newbies can look at to evaluate the symptoms they have compared with the common symptoms of male pattern baldness. It is important to remember that each case varies from person to person, however some signs are fairly common. Remember though, its easier to maintain what you have then to regrow. So even if you have none of these signs but think you are starting to loose your hair, go see a dermotologist!

Some common signs of male pattern baldness that i have noticed are:
- Itching Scalp
- Reeceded Hairline
- Visible Scalp

I had no clue until my barber pointed it out... "you're thinning here at the back". I was like ooo yes! To hear that you're balding at 23 is like winning in the lottery!

23 is pretty normal.....some kids begin to thin at 16.

Yeah normal and normal... I'd say that 90% of 23 yr olds still have no signs of balding :). Anyway, I think it might have started when I was 21-22.

How could you notice you're not balding? Maybe if its only the crown its possible not to notice your developing a bit of a patch.

HTGT how embarassing for your mother to point point a bald patch. My mum did the same thing about 4 years ago, I just brushed it off and said nahhhhh

i dont have a bald patch.....it just thinned a little in the back....my hair used to be spikey and when it was wet one day she told me....and it wasnt embarassing at all...its my mom...its not like it was pointed out in front of a group of friends or something.

I wasnt in denial either....about a month after that i was on propecia....and my hair has maintained well since then.

Well I honestly didn't notice my receding hairline (NW2.5), since I always wore my hair forwards, and didn't care about styling it or anything. I only noticed I was balding when I started thinning real bad with scalp showing through on top. With my recession and thinning I'd say my hair loss is equivalent to about NW3.5, and before it got that bad I honestly believed I had a full head of hair :freaked2: Some kind of record for this site?

Hey Norsk have you ever tried growing your hair longer? Then using some thickening products.

I actually didnt become aware of my balding until i shaved my head one day in a dare. It wasnt obvious but when I leaned down using two mirrors in the bathroom in front of a bright light I could totally tell my whole NW7 region was thinner than the surrounding uneffected area. Wish I was aware of Propecia back then. In normal light under normal circumstances no one would of ever thought I was balding, except for maybe the norwood spotters.

id say its more around between 20-25%.

20-25% of 23 yr olds have no signs of balding or have signs of balding? The latter would make more sense :).

You do realise that is the case with everyone since the light is hitting the top of your head at a different angle to that of the sides and back? It would be the same for everyone Brad Pitt, David Schwimmer ...
Just think of the shape of a head, that is why the crown often looks thinner than the rest, its the area where the curve between the scalp and the back of the head is at its steepest.

If you have an annoying hurting itch then it might be male pattern baldness.

Anyone remember Faith No More song Surprise! Your dead... It should be "Suprise! You're bald... Ahahahah it never ends...."

What never ends? Are you high or something? Balding ends when you're bald... :smack:

But the grief never ends. Baldness will bite you to death!
