Hi!

I've noticed a bit of hairloss at the crown of my hair and along the sides the last couple of years. I started using Nioxin this summer and loss has slowed down.
As a college student, I can not afford Propecia.
I'm spent some time this weekend researching the products here and reading the faq & old threads, but I still have no idea where to begin or what would be worth my money.
My hair really doesn't look THAT bad when I comb it a certain way but I can no longer style it the way I used to style it. I know I haven't caught it too late.
Whatever product I used, it wouldn't take very much.
So I need something to stimulate a little bit of growth, and something that's cheap :)
So any answers to my questions would be greatly appreciated.
So should I start with Rogaine?
How about this Arginine "topical"? Is that the powder? Any websites?

I read that Revivogen works like a "topical Propecia" and then I looked at the price :(
Maybe in a few years, or if I save up, I can get this product but not right now.
Also, I could probably combine a $20-30 product with Generic Rogaine.
Any thoughts on where I should start? Other Products?

Thanks!

Ok you're going to want to get on what we call the big three around here. Finasteride, Minoxidil & Nizroal.

Propecia is a brand name for a drug called finasteride that is sold in 1mg doses.

Proscar is the same drug, finasteride, only sold in 5mg does. Many people buy proscar and split the pills 4 or 5 way saving a boatload of money.

Example:

1 bottle of propeica = 30 1mg pills = $45
1 package of proscar = 30 5mg pills = 120 1.25 mg pills = $70

Using proscar will cost you about $17.50 a month.

Also with minoxidil, there are generic versions that contain the EXACT same formula as the brand name Rogaine. If you have a Costco near you, you can find 4 bottles of minoxidil for around $20. So minoxidil will cost you $5 a month.

Finally you need a good shampoo to make sure your scalp is not irritated and in a healthy condition. You will want to buy Nizoral. You can find this at your local drugs store. a 8oz bottle of 1% Nizoral costs around $10 and used 3 days a week will last you 3 months. So your shampoo costs about $4 a month.

So adding quickly,

proscar + minoxidil + nizoral
17.50 + 5 + 4

$26.50 a month.

Sounds like a case or two less of milwakee's best every month to a college student. Can you afford it now?

thanks

Hey thanks.
So do I have to go to the dr to get a prescription for proscar?

26.50 a month is not bad but when it's comes to $318 a year, it's not that good either. I think I can make all the products last longer than that though :)

You can try to get a persciption from your doctor, but a lot of people use online pharmacies to order their proscar. Do a search of the forums and you will find a lot of posts with links to where you can but it online.
