Chlorine pools

Hi all... Recently we cleaned our pool for the first time in years (it's been hovering between green and brown since summer '02 or something) and we've been swimming every day after our afternoon jog. Coincidentally I've been shedding like crazy for the past few weeks. Our pool is kept clean with chlorine only (not salt).

How does chlorinated water fare on the hair loss situation? Should I be avoiding it? I'm not gonna blame my shedding on it, since there are other factors that could contribute towards it (heavy exercise, quitting weed, stress etc.), but just how bad is it for your hair?

Should I be washing my hair with shampoo after every swim? What about conditioning?

...some answers would be much appreciated. :)

Well, lets just add chlorinated pools to a list of what balding people cant participate in as well. So this adds to the long list of things we cant do:
1. swimming in pools
2. washing hair with shampoo
3. eating meat
4.eating eggs
5. ingesting sugar
6. eating salted foods
7. drinking
8. smoking
9. receiving ultra violet light from the sun
10. masturbating
11. ejaculating from sex
12. working out

im just making a mental note of all the things us balding men cant do. feel free to add to this list of evironmental prison.

Pool chemicals can be hard on the hair.

Basically what happens is that the chlorine will dry the hair and skin out, and for lack of a better term, it will break. Happened to me all the time when I was on the swimming team in the army.
If you hate swimming caps as much as I do, you can put a leave in conditioner in your hair before going into the pool. This will coat the hair and protect it from the metals and chlorine in the water. It helps, but it gets washed out so a cap is allways better.

Yeah, I was just wondering 'cos my missus has been told by her hairdresser not to let her hair get wet in the pool because it will deteriorate noticeably even after a week's swimming (she has a lovely long mane of blonde hair which she takes really good care of). I don't mind swimming at the beach... in fact I try to do that as often as possible, it's just the chlorine I'm concerned about.

My hair is brittle and ratty enough just from the minoxidil and nizoral - I don't need anything making it worse than it already is, and it's quite an effort to swim without putting your head under the water.

I'm more worried about my hair quality than the shedding... after doing some basic research online I've found that it won't have much of an impact in the MBP department, however, I don't think it could be helping the situation much either. Maybe I'll just keep my hair out of the water for the time being.... (I've always loathed swimming caps - they're so uncomfortable!) I'll continue to condition every 2nd wash as normal and just hope for the best. (just like in real life.... )

...I always like asking the opinions of this forum's members before researching certain questions. Sometimes it's good to get a fresh response.
