Cheapest, home made minoxidil

So I´ve been browsing spanish forums about male pattern baldness.


I discovered I´m a fool paying 17€/month to a pharmacy for my minoxidil.


Everybody does his own minoxidil using this guideline, indicated in a sticky on the "topical forum" following this:


-They got it from a pharmacy in Madrid via mail. 5 gr. of minoxidil solid dusts costs 3€, 25 gr. 10€. They have 98% checked purity.


-They buy a lotion for hair called "actifol" that is supposed to have some "hair-follicle activation" properties. The good thing is that it can be used for a base in preparations. It has Sabal Serrulata, Nicotinic Acid and Panthenol in ppg. It costs almost nothing for 200ml.


-They mix 5gr. in 200ml. for a 2,5% minoxidil, or 10 gr. for a 5% minoxidil.


-They got 200ml. minoxidil for (more or less) 5€. Now I´m paying 17€ for 100ml, it´s a rip off for just mixing some liquids in the backstore of a pharmacy.


I´m going to try this, undoubtly, but I would like some suggestions on:


-Imagine I would like a highest concentration minoxidil, see 7.5% or 10%, becouse I´m not happy with my 5% results, would you recommend it?


-Can I try another thing in my formula, for better absorption, or for benefiting hair??

-Should I try another base for my minoxidil and forget about that "actifol" thing??

(I don´t have any bad reaction to ppg, as my actual minoxidil is ppg based and never have irritation or something similar).

This is awesome. I will definitely be looking into it. You should bear in mind I guess that not everwhere has such ease of access to minoxidil powder. Also, I might add that the pharmacy stuff has a proven track record. Who knows - if you change the delivery method, it may affect its potency. But that's no reason not to try to replicate the pharmacy stuff at home, which would clearly be cheaper too. I have to say I'm impressed.

Hi,
You cannot make concnetration greater than 5% because minoxidil is soluble in alcohocl/water base only up to 5%. Dr. Lee uses advanced tenqunics that you can't use at home. He manages to make very small particles of minoxidil which, by force can disolve.

Do you live in Spain? will the pharmacy post you the minoxidil?

I think the actifol sounds like a good base, and if the nicotinic acid in it is nicotinic acid N oxide it is used as one of the ingredients in Dr. Proctors formulations so can only be helpful.

You may however have problems mixing more than 5% in it, I think there is a limit as to how much will dissolve.

By the way can you post the address of the Spanish site?

Nicotinic acid is niacin.

Well, it´s a pharmacy located in Madrid, they don´t have a web site, I think.


People use to ask the order by telephone.


But I´ve just asked one of the oldest members of the forum for an e-mail or something, so I´ll keep you informed.


About the concentration higher than 5%, ok, I forgot that minoxidil doesn´t solve easily.

I´ll try then to make a 5% minoxidil that is what I´m actually using.

Apart for the money thing, is much easier for me (and less embarrasing) to get the actifol and minoxidil via mail, getting 200ml each time than going every month to the pharmacy for getting 100ml minoxidil.


Curiously, the minoxidil powder they sold is from Germany, manufactured by Merck, with 99% purity (they call it "pharmaceutical purity").


They even sell you a bottle of 1 kg minoxidil, if you are willing to get it!!!
