Hey guys,

alright so im ready to take the plunge..i got my prescription for Propecia. Cost is an issue for me (student loans, car payments etc) and I cant use proscar instead because i want to start with a .5 dose, which would be almost impossible with proscar. What chain pharmacy do you guys know to be the cheapest for Propecia? Walmart? Walgreens? Costco? Any suggestions?

thanks

If money is an issue at all than you need to get a prescription for Proscar.
You can still take an approximate .5 mg dose. All you have to do is crush one 5 mg tablet into a fine powder and take 1/10 of the powder, you can either eyeball it or you can purchase a digital Millagram scale, and weigh the dose.
You can get 30 generic 5mg Finasteride tablets from Wal-Mart, for $9 that would be a 300 day supply at .5 daily!

Yeah, i know i understand it would be way cheaper with proscar but, to be honest I dont want to have to go through the trouble of crushing pills, weighing it out, etc plus i'd be worried that my doses were off. Maybe once I get in the swing of things that'll be an option but for right now I'd rather just go with the propecia..chop it in half...bing bang youre done. Btw how has it been like 15 years since propecia came out and theres still no generic 1mg? I was told by a doctor there would be one in like 2 years or something.

I picked up my propecia from walmart pharmacy. It was $75 for 30 tablets. Its $85 for 30 tabs at a local CVS and at an independent they told me $102. Anyone know of any cheaper pharmacies? Also, when will propecia be going off patent for sure?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finasteride

Drug trade names include Propecia and Proscar, the former marketed for male pattern baldness (male pattern baldness) and the latter for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), both are products of Merck & Co. There is 1 mg of finasteride in Propecia and 5 mg in Proscar. Merck's patent on finasteride for the treatment of BPH expired on June 19, 2006.[19] Merck was awarded a separate patent for the use of finasteride to treat male pattern baldness. This patent is set to expire in November 2013.[20]

Got mine from Target 5mg finasteride for $30. Cutting is a pain since the coating causes uneven cuts even with a pill cutter. If you crush it into a powder, how do you ingest it without losing to much of the powder? I only ask because its suppose to dissolve in the stomach. Has anyone tried a surgical blade to cut the 5mg pill?

Great thats good to know that absorption is not an issue.

Finally you have to remeber that even cutts are not important because Finasteride has a flat dose responce anyway.

Can you explain what you mean by that? Are you saying that i dont have to cut it exactly into 1/4's since a 1.50mg one day, 1.25mg next, 1.30mg the next wont really matter?

Thanks FinFighter. Going to try a surgical scalpel and see if that will cut the pill without cracking it.

Tried the Surgical Scalpel and it worked perfectly. Pieces tend to fly, be careful when cutting.
