[...] The lyophilized complex (MXD-LIO) was obtained dissolving in water (50 mL) equimolar amount (0.167 M) of MXD and HP-β-CD. The solution was stirred at 25 ± 2 °C for 24 h and after filtration (membrane filter in acetate cellulose 0.22 μm) it was frozen at −20 °C and freeze dried (Lio5Pascal DGT). The drying conditions were as follows: pressure 0.060 bars, temperature −50 °C, lyophilization time for 24 h.

In this study, four techniques were studied for the preparation of the solid inclusion complex MXD/HP-β-CD: freeze-drying (LIO), spray-drying (SP) kneading (KN) and physical mixture (MF).
The loading (DL) was maximum in the MXD-LIO

The observed enhanced expression of Wnt4, TGFβ2, ALPL, UCP2, Kcne1 and SMAD7 genes known to drive the hair cycle and the enhanced skin thickness and follicles depth which are indicators of anagen phase observed following MXD treatments suggest that the anagen phase was more prominent in the MXD treated groups than in the controls.

MXD interferes with AR-related functions, decreasing AR transcriptional activity, reducing expression of targets at the protein level [9]. This drug modulates 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and 5α-reductase activity, which may influence testosterone metabolism transforming testosterone in the more potent dihydrotestosterone DHT.
