Hello All

First off... I posted this another forum, but realize it should go here.

Im wondering if anybody out there might be able to offer some advice on my treatment based on your experience.

I'm 26 and have been experiencing hair loss for about 2 years- especially in the front, but also generally diffuse. Last year I noticed that it was definitely happening and promptly went on Propecia. A whole pill left me limp-dicked and depressed. I took half a pill for about 6 months. I didnt see much in the way of new hairs 6 months in and overall it looked like everything was continuing.

After taking a month off treatment I started using Rogaine 5% foam. Along with 2% Nizoral once to twice a week, as well as some Nioxin Shampoo that I don't think does anything, but I like the way it makes my hair look.

A couple months into treatment I started noticing some new thing budding hairs on my hairline. I also felt like the amount of hair that came out in the shower was reduced-- though not entirely gone. Now its been 5 months.Visually, my hair looks worse than it did before it stared., and in the last month it seems hair has been coming out at an increased rate. However, at the same time I definitely see more hairs sprouting up on my hairline.

In people's experience with Rogaine... does it sound like it might be working? Should I continue with it? Or is it just working a little bit, but not stopping the hair loss? Could this just be shedding- even 5 months in?

One of the reasons I ask is I'm trying to decide whether to go back on half a pill of Propecia. I would rather not as I still think it may have been affecting my moods. I feel like 5 months ago when I started my hairloss wasn't that noticeable in even light. Now I feel like any time I don't wash it or am in normal light it it is. Im definitely at a crossroads.

I would appreciate any help you guys can offer immensely. Thank you very much.

John

My doctor told me that you should do both propecia and rogaine. They work as a cocktail when used together. I was a told a quarter propecia pill skipping one day of the week. I know this sounds crazy, and I have nothing to back this up, but for some reason taking the propecia first thing in the morning doesn't seem to negatively affect me.

I hope someone more knowledgeable than I answers your concern about the thin, new hairs sprouting. I've been using rogaine for a few months and have those same thin hairs sprouting. One thing, though, if rogaine makes you itch a bit, I think you can't scratch too hard or at all
