Guys,
Yes wearing a cap too tightly can cause damage. And I'm not referring to the grafts. The issue is the linear scar! :freaked:
At two weeks post-op or even two months post-op, the band in the cap can put too much vertical tension and pull on the scar. That's why some docs will advise their patients to wash that area using a side-to-side motion rather than up and down. In addition there is tension already put on the scar just from the loss of elasticity itself. Causing further tension and pull is a big NO NO.
When putting the cap on, never start in the front pulling the back down. You want to gently start in the back "under" the scar and gently pull the cap down in the front. Never, never adjust the band tightly, or wear fitted caps that are snug around the head.
Believe it or not, masturbation can and will pop grafts within the three day period post-op and even possibly five days for slower healers. So can intercourse. It's very elemenatry. You can raise the blood pressue incredibly to the scalp with masturbation. I have heard of guys popping grafts within a few days post-op or they had sex right away and their head was in a downward position promoting even more pressue to the area. No bench pressing either! No sit ups, etc. :freaked2:
I used to counsel guys, not CCS, just kidding, on refraining from this until at least five days post-op. Then you're good to go!
