Can Nizoral 2% Accelerate Hair Loss?

I've been on nizoral 2% for about 2 months now for dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, first month I used it twice a week and the latest month I use it once a week, I've noticed a very drastic acceleration in my hair loss in the past several weeks, it's like my hair loss moved up in few gears, could this be related to the nizoral 2% I'm using? or is it how it was going to be anyway?

I asked on another forum and some guy told me that nizoral 2% could have the same effect of minoxidil 2% and told me I'm probably shedding more now because nizoral is working and creating better hair, he linked me this study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9669136/

I'm quite confused on what to do, do I keep using the shampoo or do I drop it? could it even be the cause of my accelerated hair loss that I'm having in the past few weeks?

Yea, I am also curious on this. It helps my dandruff quite a bit for like 5/6 hours but then it spurs again. My hair does feel and look thinner after I use this aswell and doesnt recover until oils fill my hair the following day. Ive heard it’s necessary to take in combination with finasteride but it honestly has made my hair feel worse.

There is no way in hell that ketoconazole can match up to Minoxidil in terms of hair effectiveness (assuming you respond to minoxidil). Results like that only happen in the bizarro world of pubmed studies - when is the last time someone posted pictures of ketoconazole improving their hair, it is impossible - meanwhile you see pretty solid minoxidil regrowth on a regular basis. Come the f*** on.

Honestly, I've used keto for a whole year, dropped it and had zero changes in my hair (aside from getting rid of the awful thin feel every time I'd wash my hair with it). Just drop it.

my hair is different, the more oily it is the thinner it looks.

well it did help my dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, basically removed it completely, so I understand it cannot be as effective as minoxidil, but can it actually accelerate my hair loss? or am I just experiencing normal acceleration that would have happened anyway?

There's a reason keto is part of the big three and prescribed by virtually every dermatologist for hair loss. It works. Don't drop it. People posting on this forum claim nothing works because they are the extreme cases of very aggressive hair loss for whom nothing works. For most people keto is an effective treatment. It just shouldn't be your only treatment. I got very good regrowth from keto alone. There aren't a lot of people posting success stories about keto because there aren't a lot of people who use it by itself.

oh well I guess I'll keep going for now, I hope it doesn't completely butcher my hair, should I switch to 1% tho?

We don't have creams, but shampoo works too. Keto is actually a very potent anti-androgen.

well, they also used that cream every day, or almost every day, I'm using it once a week, it can't possibly make a noticeable change from once a week.

Considering it is once a week, even if it were absolutely terrible for your hair (proven not to be) it wouldnt fry your hair in 1 year.

I hate it the days I use it too, but taking into account what everyone has said I think its worth using as long as your dandruff persists. If your dandruff goes away for good (which mine tends to do in the summer time) using it once every 2 weeks wouldnt be awful either. Its just an anti-inflammatory, necessary for scalp health if you have seb. dermatitis.

so it's just a coincidence my hair loss has accelerated shortly after I started using the shampoo?

Keto shampoo does have some research backing behind it. Several studies showed that it helps with hair loss. It is nowhere near as powerful as minoxidil, and compared to finasteride, it is magnitudes weaker. However, it is a helpful and convenient little add-on to a regimen that already consists of finasteride and/or minoxidil. Adding it to your regimen doesn't do any harm, and it is possible it may add a little to finasteride's effects, so you might as well incorporate it into your regimen.
