I'm trying to figure out why using minoxidil on one side of my hairline has taken me from a nw1 to a Norwood 2.5 (Extremely thin) on just one side of my hairline, I was only using it on this side over the space of a 8 months. The other side of my hairline has remained a perfect nw1. I wasn't on finasteride for 7 of those months so could it be that increased blood flow through minoxidil has caused more dht to go to that side? I don't understand it and i don't want it to get worse! In my head I'm debating whether to quit minoxidil to stop more damage or keep on going in the hope that the hairs lost will come back but i don't see any coming in. Advice?

I was balding from my crown while my hairline was untouched, Why did i start on my hairline? Good question, i think it was to test minoxidil's preventitive strength as people said it can save you a few years. does the theory that minoxidil can cause more dht to reach the folicle sound possible?

First time minoxidil user and I for me I'm noticing less shedding overall, even when I wash my hair there's only a few hairs. Since I was a teen every time I washed my hair there was a ton of hairs so it's a novel effect.

interesting remu although very subjective, I mean your male pattern baldness could have slowed down naturally slowed too. Surely minoxidil opening your blood vessels which helps promote nutrients and hair growth would also mean more DHT reaching them.

From another thread:
"Minoxidil from what I described above causes inflammation, exacerbates andogenetic alopecia (Increase various PGs), but has its own unique pathway to grow hair"

In my opinion without finasteride you will loose both your hair that minoxidil made you shed and minoxidil hairs.

Yeah It grows hair by increasing blood flow so wouldn't this also mean more dht hitting the folicle?

No. Secretlybatman, I myself use Minoxidil twice daily everyday, I rarely miss an application. I do not use any Dutasteride or Finasteride and the Minoxidil heavily slowed my male pattern baldness, by a lot. No one would use Minoxidil to treat hair loss if it would actually speed up the process. From my experience, if you suffer from hereditary hair loss, using Minoxildil is a must. Like I said, it's from my experience.

Science doesn't have an exact explanation to how and why Minoxidil works. There are theories that suggest it creates more blood flow to the hair follicles, that it could be a potassium channel opener, that it stimulates the dermal papilla, no one really knows exactly how it works.

Did you say in your first post on this thread that you were taking Finasteride and stopped it? That could be a huge mistake of doing that, unless you were getting side effects.
