Can minoxidil prevent further hair loss ?

We know that minoxidil cause hair growth on scalp area..

But for further hair loss preventing, how can minoxidil be effective for people who can't use finasteride because of side effects ?

I think minoxidil probably works best for guys who are 'slow balding' vs. those who are losing hair quickly at age 18. Those twins (one who used propecia, one who didn't) seemed to show that in at least some cases stopping the DHT destruction early enough can indeed allow one to retain hair that would otherwise have been lost - I doubt there's a minoxidil case that dramatic. minoxidil is more like bailing water out of a sinking boat - it doesn't fix the problem, just keeps it at bay. Propecia, started young enough, does seem to fix the problem ... hopefully without any side effects.
