Can Minoxidil Fight Diffuse Thinning Without Finasteride? Also, Will I Have Shedding?

17M with diffuse thinning on top and no hairline recession. I'm using Rogaine twice daily and I just started treating my hair loss three days ago. Obviously I don't expect immediate results but my hair loss will become noticeable if I lose more hair. Can Rogaine twice daily keep me at my current density? I currently have a comb back style that hides my middle thinning very well. Also, if Rogaine starts making me shed should I stop? I'm not currently shedding but I'm just planning ahead.

You will have a shed. All the hair that grows stronger with Minoxidil has to fall out first to regrow.
You definitely have to add Ru 58441 to your Minoxidil or Start to take low dose Finasteride.
You need an anti androgen. Do your research. Minoxidil is a mere booster, but you will still be bald in the same time as without it. :)

I'm working on getting a prescription for finasteride ASAP but it still may take a couple weeks. By the way, what dose of finasteride do you think I should use? Thanks for the advice

Definitely get on finasteride. Pretty much every race besides Caucasian's always seen to get great results! Especially with finasteride. You could hope to make a full recovery with a finasteride minoxidil combo.

I don't think Caucasians have worse results than other ethnicities. For instance, I am Caucasian and I've had wonderful results from 5ar inhibitors. If there is a difference, I'd say it is negligible. After all, it is a fact that humans are 99.99% the same genetically with greater variation within subgroups (e.g. all white skinned people) than between subgroups (e.g. Asian and white). In my opinion, race is for the most part a social construct.

Anyway, back on topic, original poster you definitely do need to take finasteride. Minoxidil appears to work primarily as simply a growth stimulant. There is some evidence that it also interferes directly with the underlying balding process through a different mechanism, but the extent to which this property of minoxidil is able to be effective in terms of stopping hair loss is not known. Basically, you do need finasteride to be sure that you are treating the underlying balding process efficiently.

A previous poster mentioned RU58841. If you find you have bad side-effects from finasteride then you could try RU58841 in place of it. RU58841 is not as effective as finasteride, but it is something to strongly consider if you find you can't tolerate finasteride.

I have no study to back up what I said, but from personal observations over the years Caucasians tend to respond less than other ethnicities. 99% of the non responders ive read/seen were all white. I'm personally on finasteride, oral minoxidil and Androcur which should be enough to experience a lot of regrowth.. But all I have experienced is accelerated hair loss and now I am slave to toppik/dermmatch so people don't notice. Feels bad man :(

I went on minoxidil when I was 17 and honestly even though these guys have given you good advice, I'd wait til you're 18 before you get on finasteride. You don't know if you have any growing left..

I knew @AnxiousAndy suggesting Caucasians are excluded by regrowth from the likes of finasteride was going to strike a purple Vein on the temple for somebody; low and behold my friend.
