Can minoxidil be used as a protective measure?

Can i use minoxidil on the areas of my scalp that im not baling in without the normal hairs becoming minoxidil dependent? I want to use it on my hairline to protect my hairling.

They will become minoxidil dependent - they will grow thick and long. If you decide to withdraw, then these hairs will shed and go back to their normal conditions.

So just say that male pattern baldness did not affect these hairs. When i use rogaine, the will become thicker and longer. If i withdraw, they will go back to what they were before i started rogaine? Im just scared that i will shed them and they will never grow back.
