Can Low Estrogen Cause Hair Loss For Men?

I've done some research online and it seems I have some other symptoms of low estrogen as well. I was wondering if having low estrogen was worth looking into for my odd hair loss.

I had/have that, too. After lots of theories over enzymatic block and what to do about it with my Doctor, I decided to just take finasteride. A side effect is elevated estrogen.
It works so far and I forgot about the topic.

Is your hair loss diffuse/ diffuse unpatterned?

Yes, it's diffuse. My whole sides of my head and sideburns are the worst. It's also falling out on top and in the back. I also have fatigue, sleeping too long, frequent urination, clicking in my joint (a lot), and unexplained eye pain. I heard these could be other symptoms.

How did it work you you? Any regrowth? How about the sides; did you get volume loss in face?

Androgen disorders like hair loss and prostate issues are closely linked with estrogen. The problem is it is more complicated than just too little estrogen and probably more related to receptor concentrations and type of ER receptors (alpha and beta) and their relationship to androgen receptors.

Oh wow, you seem very knowledgeable. Please tell me what to do to figure out what's wrong with me. Is there a test I should try to take? Is there a way to know if it's actually what's wrong with me? or is my body just set up like this and I have to urinate all the time with weak streams, and have no hair or sideburns forever?

I'm 28, fit, and have healthy lifestyle if that matters.

Why not take Finasteride in a low dose (such as .5mg/day)? You also may want to confirm your testosterone and estradiol levels. In young men, androgen disorders are not due to high testosterone but LOW testosterone usually. I feel the Androgen activity in the tissues increase in response to low systemic activity. I feel like low dose Clomid (25mg once every two to three days) and .5mg/day Finasteride has done wonders for my hair and hormones.

I got my testosterone tested and it was normal. I didn't get my estrogen tested though.

Are you on finasteride? When I quit finasteride I had a lot of the symptoms you described. Especially creaking joints. Started on finasteride and got worse when quitting.

No I've never taken it. This is all just happening for no apparent reason.

There was that one paper that associated balding with lower testosterone and one paper that showed no correlation.

Honestly it would make sense... low systemic testosterone=more paracrine dht signaling needed at a cellular level to compensate. We also know low thyroid and high dhea are associated with Androgenetic Alopecia, both of which could be an association with or a cause of low testosterone

I’d love to see some data on clomid and hair loss... all I can find is women citing clomid starting hairloss on reproductive endocrine forums. Nothing about men

So if I go on finasteride will this become much worse? Or will it make it better? In this same time frame I've also had a massive increase in body hair, as well as sexual dysfunction.

All we really have is the clinical data.... around 83% of the time you will atleast maintain for 12 months. Add rogaine to that and it’s 92% chance.

All the other symptoms we have no idea how it will affect as there is no data

What about anecdotal evidence? Like if there's a chance it could help my other issues I might consider it, but if it will keep my hair and my othernissues get worse it's not worth the risk. My hair is already pretty bad.

Women's hair loss seems to be multifaceted. Women seem to lose hair for a variety of reasons and what is good for men's hair is not always good for women's hair and vice versa. Clomid may cause some hair loss for women due to hormone fluctuation. I have not seen any men say Clomid caused hair loss. Interestingly I read that TRT increases DHT but Clomid DECREASES DHT even with the increase in testosterone. I think lower doses of Clomid is best...high doses will increase testosterone a lot but also spike estrogen levels.
