Can finasteride maintain hair at the front?

Hey, if someone with a bit more knowledge than me could answer this it'd be amazing....
would it be normal for someone who is only on finasteride to lose their hairline and hair at the front of their head? Everywhere says it can help you regrow hair at the crown and 'mid scalp area' but will it help you maintain what you have near the front or does it tend to go slightly downhill?

If it can not maintain it, at least it will slow down its loss. No doubt about that.

I regrew all my hairline on finasteride. Thick, dark hairs came in! It was truly amazing.

Had sides tho so had to quit! Bummer!

i just started finasteride and have a bunch of thin hairs at the hairline, will those thicken up over time?

Yes.

Most of the hair you have should become terminal hair. Thats why propecia works so great, because not only does it grow hair, it transforms all your hair in thick dark ones. It should even grow hair that has recently died.

I saw hairs popping up by the first week. Some people take 6 months to notice anything!

I think that consensus is that finasteride can regrow in the back but can usually only maintain in the front.

This sounds promising, I'm sorry that the drug didn't suit you though :(.

Just wondering, if I may, how old were you when you started taking it and how how long did you take it for? Also, how far along the line were you before you started taking it?

Thanks

Man I tell you it breaks my heart. I literally regrew all my hair. I remember looking in the mirror, with my hair pulled back...And exclaming outloud "wow, I dont have hairloss anymore!"

I fought the sides the best I could for about a year now, but I am currently weening off, and trying topical finasteride in one last desperate attempt.. I can't take the sides man. They are DEVASTATING. And I'm just talking about the emotional deadness I get when I'm on this stuff, let alone the physical sides.

However because of its fantastic prospects, I don't discourage anyone from taking the drug. I know that hair is worth potential harm. I just wish there were another way.
I really wish everyone success with their hair(especially myself :p)

Everyone is different and reactions to these drugs vary a lot.

In my case, proscar 1/4 has preserved my hairline for the last 14 years. There was no regrowth. The crown is perfect.

In the last year, however, there has been some recession. Maybe finasteride stopped working, I don't know. :(

From what I can tell sometimes the hairs just get so sensitive to DHT that you would have to remove all the DHT from your body to save the hairs--physically impossible.

Well, if you read the story, the nine month is where I started losing ground, because of cutting back finasteride.

It really is hard to see it in those photos cause the lighting is so harsh, but the difference was, and still is, very dramatic. Baseline, every hair was thin and limp. I gained so much volume, and got numerous comments from a lot of people.

Also my hair is reddish, so I have a lower hair count, but thicker hair. So when it thinned it really sucked.

But I grew ALOT of hair. thick dark ones popping up on the hair line, and the hairline being restored. Again its hard to see in the photos I suppose.

My hair is less red now, and more dark brown, I think because of propecia.

It is no small improvement!

What kind of side effects did you get, if you don't mind me asking.

Almost afraid to say this because of hte reactions people get when claiming finasteride sides...But I would be crazy to give up the hair I grew if it were all in my head.

I got all the sides. I believe its just what happens when you deplete your dht.

Low libido, weak erections, penis shrinkage, body hair loss, lack of motivation, dead feeling, panic attacks, much older looking in the face, dull skin, baggy eyes, dry skin, sore joints, no energy, puffy nipples, fattier stomach, sleep problems....Just pure hell, and clearly all related to the finasteride.

But a wicked head of hair.

This is a question i have recently posted, i have gained hair on crown and top no doubt, i have been on it for 5 months, but it seems that its not keeping what i have at my hair line, and im loosing it at front and hairline while having awesome results elsewhere, whats the go with this? Will it grow back?! Or atleast maintain what it was even as early as a month ago?

My hair line is getting a lot stronger. But it is not going any longer. I am having similar results to gk if you ask me. But I use minoxidil and it is probably the reason for my success so early...2.4 months of minoxidil and 2.1 months of finasteride or so.

I am strengthening the hair a lot in the front. It's NOT getting lower but there is new hairs - strong ones - popping up all along the hair line where I still have...territorial control? lol I don't know.

I do think hairlines CAN be preserved in MOST people. But the sensitivity to DHT is the highest so you have to do your best. That is why I use finasteride and spironolactone. I put spironolactone on in the mornings and minoxidil in the evenings...so I almost always have something in my hair. I really want to have something for the future though, something to inhibit some more DHT or a better anti androgen. I do think my regimen will last at least 5 years though.

But perhaps RU and fluridil are options in the future.

I know what you mean. I don't discuss the terrible stuff that happened to me the first time I tried it last year either, since I've seen what happens to everyone else that dares suggest it might be giving them sides. It's like tossing a piece of red meat to some wolves lol... seriously though I don't know why there's so many people here that get so bent out of shape about it like that. I've never labeled anyone here a "Merck shill" but I can still kind of sympathize with why others here may feel compelled to say that sometimes. :shakehead:

Do you think keto 2% lotion might also work in the front for this purpose, or is spironolactone better somehow?

I believe more in spironolactone. Just because I haven't really read any studies where keto is that successful. It might be though. But why not just give spironolactone a go? It seems to be working for me. I don't personally know much about keto lotion...at all. I know a little bit about spironolactone and I do believe in it enough to use it.

Some say keto has growth stimulating and other properties like being anti inflammatory. So maybe even perhaps using BOTH is a better idea than just a single one.

I don't know. Where do you plan on getting keto lotion if you do? I might try it.
