Can finasteride act as a "male birth control"?

It can make it more difficult depending on the side effects, but it definitely is not a birth control medication.

This might sound really immature and stupid, but for me, it would be a GOOD thing if it reduced the quality of my sperm. I'm not looking to have kids right now, or anytime soon. My girlfriend isn't on the pill, and we DO use condoms, but I'll usually start (first 1-5 mins) without a condom, then put one on. I always regret this afterward because I know pre-c*m CAN, in some cases, get a girl pregnant, and I worry about it like crazy. So like I said above, if it made me unable to conceive it would be a positive effect.

Hiya, My wife and i were trying for a few years without success of a child. I decided to start taking finasteride (1mg a day) as i thought it effected my sperm so i held off. 5 months later whilst taking finasteride, we are now expecting our first child, due may 10th. So in answer to your question... no it cant be used.. in my case, my semen was a little bit watery and i can only assume that the looser nature of it, it was able to flow better.
thanks

and as a side note, the clinic that examined my sperm noticed no difference in the quality of it. (we went through IVF)

This is really not a sufficient method for birth control. Usually, birth control has an efficacy of >99% while finasteride probably makes you not being able to have baby in some 1% or so (I know there are lot of different opinions about it)... I would really recommend using somethings else that that.
