Can derms prescribe dutasteride?

sorry if this is a noob question- im a finasteride user and curious if i can just visit my derm in hopes of getting a dutasteride prescription. I thought i read somewhere you have to go online but I could be mistaken. Thanks guys

A dermatologist could prescribe you Dutasteride off-label for Male Pattern Baldness if you know what the benefits and possible risks are of the drug, basically you need to know what you're talking about when asking for the prescription. The best chances of getting one is from a hair transplant doctor, they're the ones who are knowledgeable about hair loss.

oh really? i had planned on visiting my derm who prescribed me finasteride almost a year ago (takes it himself)- maybe ill visit a hair transplant Doctor if im set on dutasteride

If you got a prescription from a derm could you go back to your normal doctor and just have him do the refills on it? The derm costs more so i rather not go back to him but kind of need life long refills or whats the point in using it
