Can cutting calories or losing weight aggravate hair loss?

I have been undergoing a shed - I have also recently reduced my calories by 500 a day, it fluctuates but I've also lost about 5 pounds. What can I do to stop shedding? I'm goin nuts. Is it more likely to do with what I'm eating or how much? Help.

The "Lighter Life" diet promotes only eating 500 calories a day and rapid hair loss is very common among people who go on that diet.

HE said cutting by 500 not eating only 500.
It should'nt make any difference whatsoever (unless he's only eating 1000cals a day to begin with), anymore than eating a extra 500cals would.

Ah yes, my mistake. I completely misread the OP.

Christian bale literally starved himself for months to get in the shape below and guess what? Hairline stayed the same and his hair was just as thick. I'm sure long periods of under eating would cause some issues but eating at a 500 cal deficit? Highly unlikely.

Any major dietary change can cause a temporary shed. It's very seldom that such a change would result in permanent loss.
