Can body hair tell something about the response to finasteride?

Hi all,

What do you guys think of this? It's just some pseudo science I was thinking about last night.


Like you all know DHT is the big murderer for male pattern baldness guys. In this case we catagorize them into 2 groups:

Goup A: Guys with high levels of DHT

Group B: Guys with low/medium levels of DHT

Looking to the fact that DHT also causes increasement of body hair it's likely to say that the guys in group A have more body hair than the guys in goup B right?

I think male pattern baldness is caused by 2 factors:
1: High hair sensitivity for DHT
2: High amount of DHT

Imagine that there are 2 guys with exactly the same age and almost axactly the same amount of hair on their head, let's say a NW3.
Guy 1 is in group A.
Guy 2 is in group B.

It is now likely to say that guy 1 is getting screwed by a very high DHT level and a rather high sensitivity for DHT and that guy 2 is getting screwed not by a high DHT level but only by a very very high sensitivity for DHT.

Because finasteride lowers you DHT and does nothing against your sensitivity for DHT guy 2 will have no positive response on finasteride. He might even get sides because his DHT level is getting very very low!

On the other hand guy 2 will have a positive response to finasteride because his DHT level is getting lower!

The only visual difference between the two guys is the amount of body hair caused by DHT.

PS: a lot of guys in the 'succes stories' threads have very hairy arms hehe :mrgreen:

Interresting view. I don't have a full grown beard or a chest carpet. I got hit by side effects pretty fast. On the other hand, I've been able to manage side effects since march this year, and I've seen good results from finasteride since then.

i thought about this as well, as i know a lot of female to male trans people actually TAKE DHT supplements to grow facial hair. I'm 23 and cant grow decent facial hair at all. In fact I only have to shave like a couple times a week. So I'm wondering, if I take finasteride (which i have a prescription for, just havent filled it yet) if I'll NEVER be able to grow a beard (which i dont care because i have no desire to).

Also I wonder if level of DHT gets higher as you get older? Which is why some people my age cant grow a beard/dont have much chest hair and then they get into their 30s and they are able to.

The doctor that prescribed me finasteride also told me something interesting which is that DHT causes hair to fall out on our head, but actually causes the hair in our nose/ears etc to grow and become thicker as we get older. Which is funny because the day of the appointment I remember looking at my mirror in my car and seeing hair in my nose which I've never noticed before sticking out.


Then again it could be that people with similar levels of DHT just utilize them in different ways. Could it be possible that one person with DHT level X has no facial hair and another person with DHT level X tons of facial hair because the second persons body uses that DHT for that purpose while the first persons body doesnt utilize it in the same way?

From what we know, it isn't really levels of DHT that vary so widely between guys...it's how sensitive your hair follicles are to DHT.

Some people block 99% of their DHT with dutasteride, finasteride and other topical anti-androgens and continue to lose hair, others take finasteride and experience full regrowth.

As said earlier, the amount of DHT is very similar throughout males, the sensitivity is the issue.

Im an early balder, Norwood 3 at 18, I have next to no body/facial hair. I also have no sides and regrew nearly all of my hair.

Am I an anomoly or is male pattern baldness baldness a hell of alot more confusing than 'DHT sensitvity'? Deffenaintly the second one.

But finasteride does nothing against your sensitivity for DHT. Then why do a lot of guys have great responses?

I don't think body hair tells you anything except maybe your ancestry.

I have very sparse body hair, none on my back and backs of my legs, very little on the chest. I can go every other day shaving my face. My testosterone levels were extremely high in my 20's and 30's and normal in my forties. Never had any finasteride sides (3 years) and responded well to it, just wish it was
available 25 years ago.

Well theoretically body hair should say a lot more then ancestry since androgens are the cause of body hair so there must be some connection . I think its safe to say most women I have met generally have a lot less body hair I hope then most men so obviously something majorly different such as androgens must be playing some kind of role in such a large scale near 100 percent difference between the genders. So body hair must be indicative of something whether science understands it yet or not.
