Ok guys I need your advice. I currently just turned 19. I've always had a long haircut until a few months ago. I tried a buzzcut recently and now I noticed that I have receded temples. It's probably just a little under an nw2 hairline. My mom says it's always been like that, but I'm not sure about that. Anyway it seems my cousins in the family that are older than me seems to be losing hair too, like nw2 or approaching nw3 (don't know if they take finasteride). Uncles are nw3 or nw4, grandpa's are bald. Yeah so I don't have good hair genes haha. But anyway, I am considering finasteride, because my friends said out of nowhere that think think I might be going bald, idk if it's just because they've never seen my hairline before or what. I won't live in denial, just wanna know what to do. I don't buy into the fear mongering about finasteride, I'll take the very minimal risk, I'll at least try it. I've looked at huge unbiased studied and am convinced in the vast majority of cases it is completely safe. Here's my question though: If I am not losing hair, then would getting on finasteride increase my follicle sensitivity to DHT overtime? Like let's say I will not actually start losing hair until 25 and then get on finasteride and keep it until 35. Will I be able to get on finasteride now and keep it until I'm 35 as well, or would finasteride lose effect or do something to my hair to where I'll only be able to keep it until I'm 30. Just trying to figure out the best plan of action I should do to keep my hair the longest. This just sucks, because I don't know if I'm losing my hair or not, since I am not sure if my temoles have been slightly recessed my whole life... my mom has always cut my hair and said it's always been like that, but it could have just been a slow change over time. Sorry for rambling guys, anyone with a similar experience or any helpful knowledge/advice would be appreciated. Wait? Get on finasteride ASAP? See a derm and have him check it out, and listen to him? Thanks in advance!
