**Call it quits with minodoxil? Please advise..

I've been on 5% minodoxil for about two years now.

I'll admit that i wasn't the most disciplined user during this time but for the most part i used it twice a day, sometimes once.

Thing is, putting this CRAP in your hair is ridiculous in the first place. I mean, im a diffuse thinner, about 2.5NW (and only 23), im at the stage where my hair looks fine albeit a bit thin if its dry and nicely styled. Almost normal, in fact.

The LAST thing ive needed going to class in the morning (or now, work) is wet greasy shiney hair. It's ironic how something supposedly good for your condition infact accentuates its weakness, it does to your hair the one thing you cant afford it to look like, really. I know some people have had very notable success with minodoxil, some not so much, but i reckon unless you have some amazing results the juice really isn't worth the squeeze with this crap.

We all know that male pattern baldness is PROGRESSIVE and it'll slowly get worse. So why make yourself look worse when you've actually got more hair rather than enjoying the hair you have? It beggars believe that you can comtemplate putting that dross in your hair for the rest of your days.

And no, the foam isnt all that impressive either!

Anyway, to my point. 2 years and ive not noticed any noticable difference. Its obviously difficult to measure if it helped at all, but at this rate it doesn't really matter i need to keep the hair i have looking its best because im that guy who looks terrible with wet hair. My hair is thinning gradually just as before.

So now im calling it quits. At first i considered using it just at night, but what's the point? IMO its sad times when you're putting crap in your hair making it look like crap especially when its just having a marginal positive effect (if any in my case!)

Anyone else reach this juncture?

Also, since i dont post here often heres what im doing about my hairloss

I use nizoral 2% about 3 times a week and just 3 weeks ago ive started taking propecia. Im VERY hopeful about the propecia, i honestly believe it's going to severely slow down or even halt my hairloss, im prepared to take it for a good two years to see its effects.

Advice about stopping the minodoxil or my general routine would be great :)

Cheers guys,

Actually I bet you if stay on minoxidil since you are using propecia then you will now start seeing real results because before that there was nothing to inhibit the DHT therefore minoxidil not really doing much.

i would keep using minoxidil if i were you.......you may lose a lot of hair that has become dependent on it

min and finasteride can have great results!
if you are willing to try them

i know the liquid makes your hair look greasy but the foam doesn't

i use the liquid at night when it doesn't matter what my hair looks like and the foam during the day when i need "clean" looking hair

just my opinion do what you will

cheers mate

:( not the replies i was looking for

i wish i never started minoxidil it really is more trouble than anything else :(

i can handle using a special shampoo and taking a tablet a day but honestly, minoxidil? i dont know.

obviously i would if i was under the impression it would make a big difference but otherwise, no chance.

now ive started propecia perhaps minoxidil could become more useful BUT if i keep using it now ive started propecia ill be 100% dependant on it for life wont i?

oh and about the foam

it worked great for about 2 weeks, the can is still half full but pretty much nothing comes out. at the start it was good foam then it started getting all watery and no almost nothign comes out (even though its half full when you shake it?)

Yes, but look at this way. Since you are now on Propecia you will start seeing REAL results with the minoxidil, it's almost a guarantee.

Jerzy Devil? WTF?

LOL, clearly not. The guy has the same avatar as you ya see! :D

hmm i don't know, im at the cross roads. i get what you're saying but if i commit to using it with propecia now thats me for life even if it does little additional benefit

is there any use using it one a day?? i could live with that, but applying in the morning is almost untenable for me tbh

stories like this have always put me off using minoxidil. However it is supposed to work better in conjunction with Finasteride - and yes, both are a lifelong commitment.

i really really find it hard to justify greasing up my already shiney head with this stuff every morning. It makes my hair look worse than it even is. it be different if it was like "make your hair look like sh*t for 3 months and then you can stop and reap the benefits". No, you have to continue to make your hair look like crap to make it improve...apparently.

if i can find decent evidence that once a day is effective then thats part of my new regimen

Plenty of people use it once a day, including myself. search this site and you will find studies posted by Bryan showing a small drop in effectiveness from dropping to once a day. I used it twice a day for two years then went down to one. I didn't notice much loss because of it.

If you do decide to quit, do it slowly, 1 once day, every other day, every two days etc.. for a few weeks to help minimise the dreaded shed.

Ok, i think im now convinced to use it one a night :)

I was kinda of the impression that i wasn't a responder to minoxidil so i might as well quit it though? but now we'll see if the propecia helps.

also, i've got foam and liquid, effectiveness wise, are they equals?

I'm a diffused thinner.
Colin I was in a similar predicament 4 months ago. I was on minoxidil for 1 year and all it gave me was sheds I also had side effects which I have mentioned in other posts. Besides, I agree with you that applying minoxidil 2 times a day was a hassle.

When I was 7 months in I started finasteride.

And for another 5 months no results just shed and then the the hair would grow back a bit to what it was.

My biggest problem is "VOLUME". Freakin no thickness or any change,

minoxidil only made my hair darker.

Anyway, I quit minoxidil in November, and then mid december it started. The BIGGEST shed ever. It lasted the entire Jan and my scalp was showing.

Then unexpectedly a pull back in first week of Feb and now its slowly creeping back .

Please note that during the big shed in Jan I ordered, Xandrox 15% and 5%. I applied 5 times in all only on my temples (just below my hairline) and thought I would soon need to start using all over (like before). Hpwever, as soon as I saw my hairloss had stabilised a bit I quit again

So am still loosing hair but nowhere near the big shed in Jan.

Remember all this while I'm on 1 mg finasteride. I'm not sure how much I will regain....so fingers crossed.

Spreading minoxidil in your hair takes a few minutes..Try a 10 or 15% one and look if you get better results. You have to try and spend if your are not happy with the present results. Hairloss is a b**ch!

The only way to know for sure is to stop using it, and see what happens. You can always go back on it, if necessary.

might start a new thread on this one

minodoxil once a day is apparently almsot the same since topical minoxidil lasts about 22hours anyway....

hmmm. before bed wouldn't be a problem...

I use minoxidil only at night. I agree with you that it makes hair look like crap that's why I use it only at night and it basically stopped my hair loss. I on minoxidil little less than 2 years.

Use it only at night before bed.

I gave it up entirely, sick of the greasy look, sick of it rolling down my scalp into my eyes or down my neck and sick of its harshness on my scalp.
Currently doing my best to maintain what I have and praying for a growth solution that doesn't impinge as much on one's lifestyle as this terrible product.

I've never used minoxidil, but isn't the foam supposed to be nicer to use than the liquid? Or is it not as effective?
